The cougar stereotype is subjective?

I was browsing OK Cupid, came across this local lady who just moved into the area from out west. At first glance, very pretty eyes and smile, that got my attention. Sometimes when you look at them, before looking at their age, you mentally guess their age. I figured her to be no older than 50 years old.

Turns out she's 60...and I was like "Wow, she's a stunner...most women in the area that age are pretty much People of Wal-Mart' types". Pretty much 500 miles of hard road, liquor, and tobacco products. lol.

Then I thought, "Hm she's 60, she probably won't want to hear from me." Then I looked at her age range that she'll date as young as 37. Then I perked up a bit. lol Because I know most women her age...if they look YOUNG for their age are always getting approached by men over a decade younger and they usually hate it.

In fact, some mention in their profile..."If you're younger than 40...don't contact me, I'm NOT a cougar!"

Funny how some men assume men are "cougar hunters" when the men pursuing are assumed as such, when after all they are simply attracted.

Believe me, there's women her age that will not date men probably under mid 40s even.

Some older women think the idea is repulsive, but other 50 or 60 something women, not so much and are open to a serious relationship with a younger man.

BUT.....there's a stereotype here. Women will not be open to such an age...no matter how good THEY look, for fear of being labeled a cougar...other's could care less? BUT...just because they are open to dating younger doesn't make them a cougar, right?

I am 9 years older than my boyfriend, and I hate that word. It implies I preyed on a younger man, and that is so far from the truth. When I was dating, my age range went as low as only 4 years younger and maybe 10 years older. I wasn't interested in being the "older woman". My ex husband was 7 years older than me, and I had always dated older guys before my ex. So, when my boyfriend contacted me online, he convinced me to go on the date as my initial reaction was no. I'm glad I gave him the chance, and it's been the best relationship I've had. I honestly don't feel older than him when we are together, and no one can guess I am as I look young for my age. But, when people find out, I hear that word thrown around and I cringe. He thinks it's hilarious.

Right, it's remarkable how some women have this gene of looking younger. I have a female friend that goes to the local watering holes with another female friend of hers. Her female friends looks her age...usually due to exposure to the sun all the time...she's sun goddess.

My female friend, doesn't work out, doesn't really diet, but doesn't overeat either, got a small "pooch" at her belly, but it's cute, "Skinny fat" as some people call it...she's like...48...but mistaken for mid-30s. She does have a heavy background of Italian in her, so that's probably where it carried over.

She kind of brags on FB that people disbelieve her when she tells them her real age. She is even carded at bars/restaurants.

But, when people find out, I hear that word thrown around and I cringe. He thinks it's hilarious.

Right, I am guessing they are just teasing...all in good fun, joking around. I bet they are like "Coooogaaurrr!" and laugh or something. I'm sure they think it's just as funny as your b/f...but I've heard older women get irritated by the mixed company that tease them about it.

I'm guessing you'll eventually see the humor in it? LOL

OP, you are aware that on OLD any age older than the guy mailing can be mailing literally to gain 'experience' yes?

It's very easy to realise after just a few mails that even a man a couple of years younger and 'looking for a relationship' is mailing someone older just to get some sexual experience.

Cougar is a horrible term and as another posted implies that the younger man was 'prey'.

Some men even over 40 will mail and it's so obvious that they see a slightly older lady as sexual experience only.

Only a COUPLE of years younger? Highly doubtful that say a 40 year old man would be contacting a 42 year old woman for experience. You may want to make that age gap somewhat wider there to qualify such a claim.

Again, I say doubtful, because it's ludicrous as I'm sure the "couple of years younger' man is just as experienced as the woman a couple of years older.

Definitely subjective.

.

I was 16 and, well, Farrah was heh, a cougar.

What's notable, in general, is the neutral language, cougar, a name of an animal elegant and attractive enough to be a selling point for automobiles, versus 'dirty old man,' an adjective commonly ascribed to men with similar proclivities. Political correctness and all. 16 wasn't a bad time after all. Things were simpler back then.

I was kind of surprised this woman was willing to date men as young as 37, even though she's 60, but it's probably moot as mid-30s men probably ask her out anyway. lol

It has happened, more than once, twice, three times...

I am unable to 'qualify' this unless I go back in time and send you the shots of the mails. Good grief! Lol!

It is IMO ludicrous - but it happens.

I hear you, girl.

It's often the guys that have come out of a long term, very vanilla, shall we call it? relationship.

I had two of them find that I was more than they could handle. :lmao: They both dumped me and probably ran back to their mommies.
