I want to take a vacation, but have no one to go with.

I told my friend, that I was planning on going alone to Florida-she told me that it wasn't "safe." I don't know what the hell she was talking about since I asked her if she wanted to go and she declined. I want to go to Disney world, but that would be pretty sad going alone, seeing that there are a bunch of families and friends going together. And no, I'm not traveling alone, it's NOT safe, I'm a single female. I had thought about it before, but it's not safe, I dont know why ppl keep telling me that. Men can travel alone to unknown territory, women can't. Chances of women that are alone will probably get raped or mugged.

 

Traveling alone CAN be perfectly safe, backpacking is a cheap way to go and you'll be surrounded with a lot of other travelers. You don't need to be social if you're not the type but I find hostels and backpacking to be safe as everyone is doing the same thing, its like safety in numbers. I have done backpacking in my 20s and never had a problem. I just made sure I go to places with lots of people and am very safety conscious of my money and passport.

 

20+ years later I'm still backpacking, and with technology to help you, you don't really need a companion. Traveling alone can be fun, you don't need to worry about somebody else.

I can totally understand your feelings about this. I have very few friends and none of them are into travelling like I am. But I have done enough road trips by myself, I want to go with people. I know a lot of people say it's safe for single females to travel alone, but that's just because they haven't had anything bad happen to them. I've narrowly missed bad situations so I would be able to enjoy myself more if I was with someone. So I totally get that you will only do it with someone else. If you want to PM me, we could talk more about it. I would love to go to Florida, that's one of my bucket list destinations!
