Acquaintance kissed me on the cheek...does it mean anything?

So, there's this guy who is a manager at a grocery store that I frequent. Almost every time I come in, he comes up to me and makes small talk; he also touches my arm or gives me a high-five or something like that. Well, the other day I had just gotten in line to check out and turned around and there he was. He asked me if my holiday shopping was done and what my plans were. I told him I still had some baking to do, and he told me that if I had any extra treats to bring them by. That gave me the idea; why not make him some treats? So, I went home and made him some treats. I went back to the store and looked around but couldn't find him. All of a sudden, I see him walking towards me and said "You're back already? That was quick!". He didn't realize the treats were for him at first, but when he did, he put his arms out to hug me. I went to hug him, but when we embraced, he kissed my cheek! And I don't mean a quick peck--this was a full on, 10 second kiss. He then pulled away and I noticed that he was blushing. He didn't look me in the face and just said something about digging in to the treats right away; then he walked away as I said "Merry Christmas". The funny thing is, he doesn't know my name or anything about me. Could the kiss have been a way to say thanks, or could it be something more? Do guys (acquaintances) kiss girls they don't know? How should I proceed?

A kiss on the cheek is relatively meaningless, but 10 seconds is rather long. Kissing on the cheek is a common "friend greeting" in these parts. At the holiday party I went to earlier this week, I kissed several women I didn't know previously on the cheek.

In the culture I am from, a kiss on both cheeks is the standard way of greeting a friend. What is this person's background?

My crush kissed me on the cheek on our first date. We still had that 'friendzone' vibe then. (though we both secretly wanted more)

 

But trust your instincts. If you feel the cheek kiss was an elaborate attempt and a disguise of something more substantial, it probably is!

 

When my crush hugged me, he kissed my cheek slowly and very passionately, like you mentioned, about 10 seconds in. It was by no means a platonic peck!

 

True enough, the next date, he kissed my lips. And the rest is history.

 

I believe your Mr Acquantaince here is onto something more! It was a sweet gesture that you bake for him, if you like him, that's an awesome step!

A kiss on the cheek between acquaintances could mean nothing.

 

 

In this context, with the flirting & the giving of gifts it is an indication of romantic interest, IMO. Keep up the flirting if you like. Go to a different store if you don't.

Well, it doesn't matter because now that you made him treats and he kissed your cheek, he will either ask you out right away or he won't. Then you'll know. If he's really interested, you making him treats and hugging would certainly let him know he's cleared for landing. So just wait and see if he asks you out. And I hope you put your name on the treats at least. If not, I'd tease and tell him, you don't even know my name, do you? And introduce yourself.

I have been thinking about this guy nonstop, and it's making me crazy! I went back to the store to get a few items and to see if he would run into me again, but he must've not been working tonight (or he feels awkward or embarrassed and is avoiding me). I don't want to keep daydreaming about him if the kiss was platonic; if he meant it as more, I want to kiss him for real, right on the lips. I want to know what he meant by the kiss, and I know that he's the only one that knows. I don't know anything about him (his age, r'ship status, etc.). He doesn't wear a wedding ring, but he is very cute and seems so sweet that it'd be hard for me to believe that he's not already taken. Is it common for a married or otherwise coupled man to plant a long kiss on the cheek?

this reminds me of a handsome white guy long time ago...

 

a few people came from Australia or something visited my roommate. One night, everyone went out, and this guy still left in the living room, I was watching TV while chow down some confectioneries... then he suddenly came over and kissed my cheek and then quickly left to join the group. I had never even had a conversation with anyone in the group and he was a completely stranger...

 

If he was a unattractive guy I would hate that. I hate anyone who touch me. but alas, he was a really handsome guy, so now I only have fond memory and feel flattered.

That is so intriguing!!! What happened?? Please don't tell me that's the end of the story?

really? why it is intriguing? does it even mean anything?

 

:( sorry, that was the end of the story. next day, they went back to their country. and I and my roommate weren't not friend. I just rented a room from her for a few months while on a co-op work term.

 

yes, life is not fair. I feel bad about that I am discriminatory, but I can not help it:(
