Selling the house Or living in poverty

Recommended Posts

I am going through a divorce with 5 year old twins. My soon to be ex, as well as the twins and her 2 kids from a previous marriage all live in the home that I purchased with money from a trust fund via my father(which originated as part of a wrongful death suite from my sister's premature death 20 years ago) The home is in my name only but of course it is difficult to displace everyone. We were married(when the twins were 1 and a half) for just shy of 2 years before separation in July of 2014. I am paying a lot of child support and spousal support to the point that I can barely pay my bills. I have offered to sell the home and split the proceeds in half but she does bot want to leave it or finalize the divorce that I filed for in September 2014. I have legal custody and secondary child custody, having the kids on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I am searching for a fair solution that allows us both to move on financially. My son is disabled while my daughter is perfectly healthy. My ex does not work outside the home and provides no income. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to talk to a lawyer & a financial advisor. It's a tough spot. But even though she has 4 kids, you should only be responsible for your 2. Where is the father of the other 2? Ask your lawyer what income if any will be imputed to her? Impoverishing yourself won't help anybody.

Agreed. For you to function as an effective co-parent after the divorce requires the means to do so. I'd at least use the threat of selling the house to move the divorce along.

Why separation after such a short time married  ??? And why spousal support under those conditions?
