seriously though, yeah I do need to get out more..

I'm going to join the gym again.. My dad get's a discount so I'm all over it, probably soon as I get my next paycheck.. I've been putting it off.. I over did the training right after my accident and made myself worse.. So I've been a little gun shy.

I want to take some classes, just haven't decided on what to take yet. I used to take a lot of computer classes, I got so bored... I'm sick of computers.. I only play Xbox and PS2 now.. I don't even play PC games anymore... I used to be a network tech. type and install networks, I hated it..

I used to ride motorcycles and that got me out a lot. I didn't play any games for like a year.. I need to find something new like that again. I've been thinking about taking up bicycling.. Not as dangerous, good for me, still fun, etc.

Still strong , still big and meaty but this time his neck and tummy had trimmed down significantly. I said " Wow I always wondered what he would look like if he lost maybe 40 lbs " which I am guessing he did. ( or more )

I think you are the big guy type. Broad chest , very strong and will always be a large boned guy. You can't be the skinny 140 lb guy that you know down the street because your body is programmed to be whatever weight its going to maintain at. I can recommend that you do 2 things if you want to trim some off for the girls. Get moving...if you have a desk job after work start walking like maybe 1/2 mile and gradually increase .

The second thing is how you eat. Your portions should fit in the palm of your hand and you can recondition your stomach to accept less food so it will shrink over time. And WHAT you eat is important to. Its a Life Change...not a diet. Learn more about fatty things ei : Fast Food Places are a real packer pound....Beer will also do it....Sodas.....Fatty greasy deep fried things...Just decide how you are going to eat and get a program that keeps you full but notice the weight coming off. Weight Training is also good. I think you would look good at around 240 to 250 lbs.

Good Luck !

Thanks.. I was on the fast track to 250 till I crashed my motorcycle. I was going to weight watchers, working out 2 hours a day/6 days a week, eating great, etc.

I lost 60 lbs.

Then I spent almost a year in bed, and on crutches, got better, kicked my own ass again in the gym for about 3 months, but I hit it to hard and too soon, and made my self worse. That combined with remodeling my uncle's house ruined my foot again, so I had to have a second surgery. I've been a little hesitant to get back in the gym since. But I've got to do it. Summer it coming and the sunlight is making me want to get out more... it makes my eye's hurt though .

I gained back 20 during recovery, and lost 10 of that after starting this job (I walk 3 miles a night at work right now).

I also failed a test for the Correctional Officer job I wanted, and that was my motivation for getting in shape. It kinda killed my motivation when that happened.

So, my new motivation (although slightly shallow) is going to be looking better in order to meet girls.

I've been telling myself all weekend (Mon/Tue). That I will hit 250 before the end of the year. I put on muscle fast, sometimes to the point that I gain weight in the gym. so still big, but buff, will be my goal. No hopes for 6 pack abs in my world, but I'll have the shoulders to make up for it. What I'd really like is for my face to thin out a little. I think that would make me look a lot better.

Here's hoping it works.

Hey I was thinking Mr B that maybe the weight problem might run in your family ?? Is there anyone ( especially parents ) who struggle with their weight ? If not , then you could be the child who struggles alone with this.

On the working out , if you are doing weight training ( lifting weights ) my trainer said dont work the same muscle group 5 days in a row but rather work the tummy one day and the legs the next. Thats how the true muscle develops by resting and stretching ..

I can totally relate to the bed rest thing with an injury. If you are laying in bed you arent burning and so you have to decrease your calorie consumption even more.

I'm sorry you did not get the Correctional Job but can you ask them if its because of your size ? Maybe you can get down and retry the test ?

I thinking liking girls is a GREAT motivator for losing weight ! I mean if not that , then just for your own health...just for how good your clothes feel...there are TONS of reasons and GIRLS are one of them hehe :)

Now please dont confuse fat weight with muscle weight because as you KNOW muscle weighs MORE than fat and you could be bulking up as we speak ! So remember to only weigh yourself once week ( my trainer says NEVER ) but if you must once a week. The BEST indicator is HOW DO YOUR CLOTHES FEEL ? TIGHT ? loose ?? THats the best way to see how you are progressing :)

You shouldnt hope for 6 pack abs...thats sooo overated...Hope for good health, nice muscle development and a GOOD attitude ! Chicks LOVE guys that are confident ! And with that new hot BODY you are working on you will SEE :)

It is also possible that no matter what you do , you will struggle with this your entire life, Rightly so...because nothing good comes easy ! You will have to be more careful than your skinny friend who eats 3 Big Macs . Some people just burn faster...

Good Luck !! :)

I was in a clan. I havent really played games in a while now tho. I still keep in touch with my clan buddies/community. If I had an xbox, we could start our own LS clan  lol

Isnt there any girls on xbox live??? Damn, I might need to get one just to make sure we're represented properly! I use to play on a server with atleast 6 girls, and they all kicked ass!!! It wasnt even a girl clan, we all just started hanging out together.

blah, I hate hardware. What about programming? I love it! You can always try and get a gamer tester job lol :)

I'm taking up bicyling myself! I'm a total noob, but it's a lot of fun :) It's great for your knees too so no worries about injuries unless you flip out or go mountain biking or something :( I want to get some equipment for my bike, like a water bottle and bag and stuff, but I'm a bit anxious about doing this stuff. The water bottle is a bit difficult cos it's a girls bike and the spacing is very very narrow so I donno what to do :( I"m a total noob lol

hmh.. My dad is pretty big, my mom has struggled with her weight a little recently her's is mostly due to an injury as well. One of my sisters has put on a few extra pound recently, so we all work on it.

check, I usually focus on one or 2 muscle groups a day, mix in some cardio, and then have like 1 days that's only cardio. I'll have to design a new schedule though, my old one was setup when I wasn't working and I had a lot more free time.

I wish it was that easy.. I kicked ass on all the physical tests. I worked out really hard and I wasn't as skinny as I'd have liked but cardio wise and strength I was great.

I failed the damn psychological test. I took a bunch of tests and had an interview with a shrink and they decided that I drink too much. It's total BS. but I have to wait till November before I can try again.

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to though.. I'm worried about how the danger and the depressing environment will affect me in the long term.

Definitely, I put on muscle like crazy, and I bulk up fast so I've learned to tell the difference.. Some months in the gym I'd gain 5 pounds but loose a pants size. I do weight myself about once a week when I working out, but I just use it for more information, I don't base my performance on the scale.

I run into a few girls on Live, mostly teenagers. There is a big female Halo2 clan.. PMS Squad or something like that. They play big tourney's.

I fixed up my old bicycle, it's a lot of fun, I need to take it out more now that the weather is getting better. It doesn't hurt my foot at all so it's been good. It's a lot more entertaining than the gym.

I love bicycling B. It is a great sport, doesn't mess with your knees and is great cardio if you do lots of hills. Just build up slow so you don't burn out and give up. After you get into it you can join bicycle clubs where they meet and bicycle as a team. And yes, there are girl bicyclists.

I would not do the correctional thing unless you are really hard up for a job. I think the environment would be to depressing and you only see the scum of the earth. I don't know what the pay is but I would still find something less weird.

Peace...

Errr, I'd be tempted to get a second opinion on this. I know that BMI is out of fashion now, but all the same - your ideal weight in pounds should start with a 1, not a 2.

If a male friend decides he's becoming interested in more than just friendship, he will let me know by starting a bit of flirtatious banter and upping the "touching"quota. And vice versa. It will either spark off some latent sexual chemistry or it won't. The fact that there isn't any - or sufficient - sexual chemistry certainly doesn't seem like a good reason for writing off someone you connect really well with on other levels though.

Exactly!

I can only assume that this is a cultural thing. I have to say, from what some of you are saying it sounds like a pretty cut-throat courting culture across the Atlantic. A case of "Hello - my name's X. How are you? Want to go on a date with a view to sleeping with/marrying me? What d'you mean, let's just get to know eachother as friends first? F*ck off. Time is money. Next!!!"

 Yeah, sometimes I find them scary too

Mr B I think you rock :) !

I can visualize this powerful man adding muscle bulk to that frame ...... I think you are doing ALL the right things !

I do have one concern and one only....the drinking....is it beer ? or what type of alcohol ? That stuff can really deter and derail all your efforts. Is it possible to drink low cal beer or just substitute for water. I drink TONS of water and so should you ! ITs like 98 % of what I swallow....very rarely does soda pass my lips ( bad bad for you ) and alcohol...maybe one drink like once a week or less. Your milk should be skim free milk...like 0 to 1 % milk fat. You will get used to that eventually. ( Not trying to take the fun out of partying with your friends but you know a glass of water nobody is going to know its not beer if you get a colored glass, You can still be cool but if they ask just say I am reducing my beer intake or whatever you drink ).

Let me give you an example. When I got injured I was laying in bed and drinking Grape soda and had drank like 4 cans that day ! So by chance I looked at the side of the can and it said 200 calories each ! So I had drank 800 calories in soda so I had reached half my caloric requirements already ! yikes !

To this day I dont drink much soda...if I crave it I sip a little and thats all I get. I dont drown a stick of butter on my baked potato...I just put like one tablespoon...I have been doing that for like over 10 years so thats a LIfe Style Change :"

You will see that you have to do a MAJOR overhaul and permanant one at that on your eating. Pretty soon you will giggle when you see someone eating a huge banana split and you say " I dont do that anymore , because I want to look good forever " hehe

Other than that I think you are on the right track to getting that body that you want. Because you are WORKING hard to achieve it :)

I'm drinking a lot less these days, and I was hardly drinking at all when I took all the tests, but I guess the alcoholism that runs in my family, and my past heavier drinking showed up.

These days, I'll have a few beers (2-4) at a party or when I'm out with friends, probably less than 2 beers a week on average. I drink very little hard alcohol, maybe a couple shots at a party or something like that. Probably every few months.

however, I used to drink like a fish.. about 3 years ago before I started trying to loose weight and exercising and all that I stopped. I went to see my doctor because my bad ankle was bothering me (I broke it once before the motorcycle accident) and she wanted me to loose 50lbs and see if it made my ankle feel better.

At that time I was drinking 4-6 beers on week nights, and about 12 beers a night on weekends. I'd also go to party's and get drunk about twice a month. I figured cutting back on the drinking would help with the weight loss, and it did, I lost 60lbs that year.

I do have a soda problem still, I cut back a lot when I was working out and dieting, but working nights these last few months has brought it back, and the free soda at work isn't helping. I have a caffeine addiction. Quitting caffeine will probably be the hardest thing I ever do. I'm allergic to diet soda, so I'm thinking of switching to sugar-free RedBull and iced tea for my caffeine, and cutting out the regular soda.

I'll be moving in a month or so, and I'll hopefully be in my own apartment closer to the gym, and with my own kitchen. This should make a huge difference. Right now I'm staying in a friends basement apartment and I don't have a kitchen. It's pretty hard to eat healthy when you can't do any cooking.

thank you!, I wouldn't say I'm doing all the right things yet, but I've got the right idea, and I've done them in the past, just need to kick my ass back in the right direction. That motorcycle accident really threw a major curve ball at my life, and now I need to start putting things back together.

Somehow I doubt that I'll ever be below 200, I was 200 in the 6th grade, and my mom worried that I was skinny. I'm a BIG guy, I may not be very tall, but I'm built like a linebacker, I've been told I look exactly like my Swedish great grandfather.

But who knows. My plan at this time is to try and hit 250 by the end of the year, measure my body fat percentage, and see where I need to go from there. I've been told that 16-18% body fat is "normal" for a guy my age so that's what I'll shoot for.

How about trying soda water? Add some fresh lemon or lime to it. No sugar, no cal, no sugar-substitues and it's a refreshing taste. Try to reduce the amount slowly and replace with water, because the sodium isn't that good for you.

As for the caffeine, do you drink coffee? 3 cups a day is considered to be okay.

Good luck. I think you are moving in the right direction. You are still young (I know some ppl dont' like hearing that) but really there is lots of time.

It sounds like the drinking is down to a more reasonable amount than before .... :) I would keep up with that style for the most part.

The addiction to soda is a toughie for you . Maybe if you brought your own , like something that was reduced Calorie. I think its Pepsi One or something like that. But if you cant drink diet sodas have you thought of making a big jug of sun tea ? I drink alot of tea , its soothing, cold, refreshing and seems to satisfy my need for caffeine.

What about those flavored waters ?

If you have refrigeration in the basement , then maybe stocking up on fruits and salads alot can replace some of the eating out ?

Good suggestion, I like that stuff. There is a bottled sparkling water that my mom get's all the time, it's lemon flavored, but I've looked and it has no calories or anything. It's in the fridge here at work too, free=good. :p

I don't drink much coffee, I don't like it very much. but I'm waaaaaay past 3 cups a day worth. I usually drink Rockstar energy drinks, I think they are 16 ounces, I drink 2-3 of them a day. Or I hit up 7-11 and grab a super-big-gulp, 64 ounces of Mountain Dew... yeah, not good. but I get withdrawal symptoms within about 2 hours of waking up if I don't get any caffeine in my system. I get headache's and the shakes, and hot/cold flashes, and irritable, I'm like a damn drug addict. I'd like to cut down to about 1 redbull a day. It'll probably be eaiser once I start working days again.

BigB, Europeans drink a few cups of real coffee every day and they are thin. Quit all the sugar and fat bombs, junk and fast food right away. Try fruit yogurt instead of sweet products. Mashed fresh fruit with 0% fat yogurt and a spoon of honey is just soooo delicious and healthy.

Lots of fresh and cooked veggies, fish, low fat meat, and fruit is what you should eat. Go to sleep hungry (you'll eat in the morning! ;) ). Don't expect a miracle, but you CAN lose 8 lbs per month if you're persistent. It means you can lose the extra weight in 6 months. Working out is great, but if you don't feel like jogging, you can also walk, swim, ride a bicycle or dance.

It's good when guys smell good so choose your perfume carefully! Neat hair, a regularly shaved face, and nails cut on time are also very important. Cool clothes (that cost more money) will leave a better impression than casual T-shirt and jeans.

Be more assertive, smile a lot, work on your self-confidence, show your good manners! Lower your criteria for women's looks if you're looking for Miss America.

Think of all the places where you can go and meet people. Don't be afraid to start a conversation.

Education is very important, because higher education means a better job and income. Women think about family, babies, houses, and stuff like that. They want men who can provide. So the more money you make the higher your position with girls. Good luck! ;):)

Yeah, Swedes can be pretty big - call it the viking thing! It's not unattractive though, when the body is obviously designed to be big.

Absolutely amazing, you might be interested to know that the gent who started this topic is in EXACTLY the same situation as me, only our physical differences set us apart, it was like reading something I'd written myself

- So when you find a solution that really works "SEND IT TO ME !!!!!!!!!!!"

and regarding this guys size, just to mention, I recently went to the doctors for a general checkup, and without me mentioning it, when I was weighed I was told that I'm on the low side for body mass (I'm a skinny bugger)

just proves it doesn't help if you're thin !
