Unshaven Men are more common?

Recommended Posts

I get what you're saying OP, I see it too. Beards seem to be in, along with man buns....

Go on any dating site and look at how many women say in their profiles they want a guy with a beard and muscles... Tv commercials show sloppy looking guys that just look like they rolled out of bed too. I see exactly what you're saying.

And FYI I have no issues with beards, I actually have one now since I'm on vacation and don't have to shave for work for once, just something I noticed.

Maybe it's just a winter thing thougj

Why do we see more men that are unshaven? I mean just no shave in a few days, not a beard, just sloppy and poor grooming. In advertisements, on TV, and the general public. Is that the new trend? Looks sloppy and unattractive.

I don't know if its fashionable elsewhere but around Portland beards are in fashion for men. So many of these METRO types are growing them also trying to look more manly.

My feeling is that you'd better be able to back up your beard :)

I for one am glad that more and more men are pictured unshaven. I HATE shaving every morning so I do it on about a 3 day basis. I don't think I look bad that way either.

I didn't. I just said I like a clean shave... which doesn't mean that unshaven doesn't bathe. But, if one bathes, shaving takes minimal time... just "dirt" simple to do both at the same time. So, not shaving because it's too time consuming or hard is really a poor excuse.

Now, if one wants to look unshaven, that's up to them. I don't care for it, and most in my crowd don't either. Just an opinion and observation.

But, seems like some just want to try a change, growing a beard use to be it, but lately just not shaving has been it.

Looks sloppy.

Don't answer this.....but it makes me curious about your age and your location. I have noticed that in rural parts of our state the men are always clean shaven. In urban parts the men sport beards.

Actually LOL I just shaved mine. I grew mine out this last month because I wasn't doing a good job of taking care of myself with all the stuff going on in my life. Its true about every 3rd day I would force myself to shower.

I don't much care about facial hair or lack thereof - I think beards don't really suit some people's faces, but it's not a huge deal either way as long as he keeps it clean. Oddly, during the times when my guy had stubble on his face, it never really bothered me as it didn't feel as prickly as some people describe. Maybe different people grow different types of stubble?

I do find it rather hypocritical if a guy can't maintain a clean shave or a nicely-trimmed beard, but expects women to have no leg/armpit hair. I guess that's the crux of it for me - it's not really about the facial hair, but about putting in the same effort that you expect.

Hah, my BF bear is of the "steel wool" type - unless he shaves 2! times a day, he "exfoliates" my face (when we first started dating my skin around my lips and chin literally peeled off :D

My ex used to "let it grow" but his beard was soft and gentle to the skin.

Tip for guys - actual stubble's not really irritating unless you're a particularly steel wool beard type guy. What gets moreso irritating is when it goes from stubble to scraggle. Then those little hairs have enough bite to jab you at random and kinda team up to make it unpleasant overall.

I hate shaving in winter, so I don't begrudge men who hate shaving in winter either. That said....

I am not a fan of most beards on men though. Mostly I see them covering up weak chins or neck rolls. I'd rather the guy was clean shaven with long hair on his head... Or nothing at all.

I've seen lots if men with bald heads or skull~ets with beards. Why?

My friend and I have a theory that its the "velcro effect"... As mens beards have grown we have shaved more and more off...

I like bearded men. Some of them just look so ruggedly handsome. Very masculine and scrummy.

Some men suit and some men don't.

I guess its just personal taste.

The lumberjack look does seem to be very much in at the moment though. I quite like it! :o

I`m slightly bearded today.... I have some rather saucy flecks of grey.

off to buy a pipe to put a whole new look into action.

My wife likes the LOOK of me with a trimmed 3 day stubble but not the feel for kissing/sex.

Same for me. For the last several years, I've been shaving twice a week -- however, my 3-day stubble is about what most guys have after 24 hours. I have no plans to go back to being clean-shaven every day - every little ounce of "ruggedness" counts in trying to counter the default asexual "nice guy" impression people seem to get.

It is a trend that's been around since the 90s, and not one I like, but that's their choice. Lord knows I've done whatever I wanted to do, and so can they. Some women like it, but more don't. Men are always trying to look more manly by doing things like growing facial hair, but only a small percentage of women like it, so they're really just doing it for themselves to feel more masculine, I guess.

I've had a short beard (#2 clippers) for over 20 years. It's starting to get pretty gray now, but my wife likes it. She's the only woman I try to impress.

I'm laughing at everyone trying to put a date on when facial hair became popular. There has been no time in history since razors have been invented that the entire male population is clean shaven.

Yeah, back when I was young many of the normally clean shaven 'suits' would, for Christmas and New Years, grow a beard. When my parents had parties or dinners I wouldn't recognize the male friends of my dads from work. However, absent that, I gotta say I rarely saw a bearded guy when young. Probably demographic. I think the first man I vividly recall having a full beard was my German teacher in high school, who also was the band teacher. Heck, when he retired many years later, from what I saw in pictures, he still had the same beard. :D

I guess it depends on the area. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and most of the adults I knew had some sort of facial hair.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the 40s and maybe particularly the 50s were the times of the fewest beards. A few had them even then: Ernest Hemingway, Burl Ives, and the occasional beatnik.

During the last half of the 19th century, beards could be found on our presidents more often than not.

I try to impress them all, because that's the only thing that makes an impression on my wife.

I tend to leave mine with a few days growth worth and trim it back every couple of days or so.

Keeping in mind though I'm only 21 so when I go fully shaved I look like I'm about 16 lol
