Do people take a break from dating during the winter months?

Recommended Posts

During the cold, winter months, I'm not in the mood to date. My peak time of dating/actively looking starts back in May-September. Anyone else do this too?

The vast majority of my new dating contacts have been after Thanksgiving and through May, with a slowdown the rest of the year. January is typically my best month of all for new dating opportunities. This has been true in the northeast and the south - I don't know if there are regional difference or other factors that may affect it. I suspect it's just personal preference.

Both black bears and grizzly bears do it.

I think people are actively dating meaning looking for a relationship from May to September so they have somebody to snuggle & "hibernate" with during the cold winter months.

People do sign up for OLD in January for the same reason they sign up for gym memberships & buy exercise equipment. It doesn't mean they will stick to their resolutions.

Really? That's odd, for me the cold winter months makes me want to stay indoors all day....

i just figured it was spring, summer that people are looking since there's a lot going on like festivals, events, outdoors, etc etc....where in winter everyone hibernates and the days are shorter.

But that is exactly it though, people are often too busy to spend time trying to find someone new to date during the summer. Many people are away on vacations, lots of activities.

Especially with online dating, those long cold winter days give you more time inside to look for someone. And you can plan dates that are warm. If you have to hibernate, it's better if you can find someone to fill that time with.

Right, but I'm not talking about online dating. I'm talking about meeting people out in public places.

Since when is taking a break from dating weird?

Taking a break because you don't want to date isn't weird. But basing it on seasons is weird. Life doesn't stop because of winter....

I've never heard of anyone who takes breaks from dating due to climate, weather or seasons. The majority of single people date often...whether it's hot, humid, freezing cold, raining, snowing, etc. Unless conditions are actually dangerous or something, most people like to get out of the house frequently and enjoy life with others regardless of weather.

When someone takes a break from dating, it's usually because they're healing from a recent breakup, or because they're emotionally stressed out, or because they're happy/content and just have no desire to date.
