She claims it is fine? I find that hard to believe??? It is a drug! You mean to tell me that you cannot stop for 9 months???? Maybe it is not harmful? Anyone know? Link to post Share on other sites
LucreziaBorgia Posted June 5, 2005 Share Posted June 5, 2005 There isn't a specific birth defect associated with marijuana like there is with other substances, but there is still the risk of low birth weight, and assorted infections - there's also the risk of getting ahold of some that was cut with something far more harmful. If she is drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes, she is adding to her possible complications by adding pot. Not a good idea to be smoking anything while pregnant. Its just too great of a risk, IMO to subject a fetus to the drugs in your system while depriving it of oxygen (which smoking anything will do). Not to mention the legal implications. I know in some states, if the baby tests positive for substances - the mother will be arrested as soon as the blood test shows up positive - even still bleeding from birth and straight from the hospital bed (as happened in South Carolina). Your friend will need to be honest with her OBGYN about this and be more informed about what she is doing - not a scare tactic, but for practical reasons so that she can better understand what she is choosing to do to her unborn baby's body inside her. It will show up in the blood and tox tests when the baby is born, as well. Link to post Share on other sites
