What if there is no afterlife?

Recommended Posts

Of course there is no afterlife.

Now, why is this a scary thought for so many people? Because they've spent a lifetime operating under the belief that they're an individual, a person, etc.

The reality is, there are no individuals, or magic 'people' living inside these ubiquitous organisms. Consciousness permeates, and must arise well before a subject/object distinction is falsely applied, thus giving rise to the 'individual'.

Unfortunately, our fates were sealed in those first moments our parents pointed and smiled and laughed and gestured, incessantly gazing into the eyeballs, making strange sounds, and 'favoring' or 'guiding' our every action; laying the framework for the 'individual' or 'person' to emerge.

Except there is no person, and there never was.

This isn't fact. Nobody will 'know' until they die so right now it's just opinions, guesses and beliefs. There is no absolutes either way.

When my brother was small he asked my dad this question, "what if there's no God?"

My dad gave a good answer, I think. He said, "it doesn't matter, as long as you leave this world better than you found it"

That works for me.

This and more of this....making a difference in peoples lives, having kids, ripples outward in a ocean after I splashed and sunk.

I am at a point where I can see the difference I have made small and large. People have told me this as well.

I am a Christian, but struggled with my beliefs and afterlife. As I age I also get depressed about death more than I would like but I try to focus on the view above - and my children.

My wife, before she met me, flat lined for several mins in an operating room. She claims to have seen heaven and has no concerns or troubles with her beliefs.
