Taking yourself out for valentines day if single..

Has anyone taken themselves out on dates for Valentines Day when not dating? How did your friends view it? How did you feel after?

I'm thinking of going to a movie and I don't think people will go to it not at least for Valentines day ?.

I think you are brave. I never did it but I did organize some "we're ignoring V day" events for friends & they usually involved non-romantic movies.

Agree w/Satu - let the vultures have their day and take yourself out the next weekend. ;)

Doing that's bold btw but right on Valentine's is just a bad idea bc you're telegraphing "loner" to all the couples out there, and everybody else out there for that matter like wait staff, cab drivers, and ticket takers. Any other day you're just saying "I'm comfortable being alone."

btw yes, group events w/friends are fine.

Just sad the single people have to be run around by the couples. I wanted to see the How to be Single movie. So I figured not many couples would probably go see it. Or if I was them I'd get the feeling the guy or someone was potentially thinking of being single ?.

You can do whatever you want the other 364 days of the year. The singles Valentine script is simple - ice cream and Netflix. :)

Long ago my friends and I used to celebrate un-Mother's Day because, we wanted to celebrate our freedom, or something like that? I guess what you're trying to do is similar.

I was thinking of going to an early showing like before dinner time. Figured no one would be out.

I attended a movie alone seveal weeks ago. I didn't like it. Even though there were others there alone, which made it feel a little better. But yeah VD would make it feel worse?

Is there a cinema or movie meetup group in your area that's seeing a movie on VD? Maybe you can join them.

While ice cream works . . . you can substitute your favorite comfort food. There were years I bought myself flowers on the way home, grabbed a great bottle of wine (or some years chocolate), made a fire & curled up with my dog & a good book.

Do what is going to bring you the most joy & self love.

I usually avoid Valentine's Day, but really only because every restaurant around here trots out an expensive pre fix menu and it's kind of a pain. I don't think there are any rules, though; a lot of couples I know celebrate with Netflix and a bottle of wine, so to each their own.

Fwiw, I go out by myself all the time! Movies, bars, restaurants—why the hell not!? If I want to do something, I'll go do it, I don't care. Valentine's Day just seems like a bit of a hassle. I wouldn't be bothered if some waiter somewhere knew I was single—they're never gonna see me again!

I think a lot of people go to the movies on Valentines Day. But, who cares if it's Valentines day anyway, if you want to watch a movie, watch a movie.

I used to go to movies on Valentine's Day.

But avoid restaurants... They are jacking up the price and you will have to deal with too many diners.

I've never taken myself out, but I'll buy myself something nice. Or just treat myself. Or...well...just treat it like any other day, because that's all it really is.

Sorry, Im remembering all the nice things I've done for ex's and feel bitter knowing their reactions weren't necessarily genuine, so Valentine's Day is just another day for me lol

I have gone to movies alone several times. And though sure it would be nice to go with someone, I don't mind going alone at all. I do tend to go in the morning. Just less people and tickets are a lot cheaper.

As for Valentines Day if you want to take yourself out I think you should. Who really cares what anybody thinks, it is not like you are going to be running into these people everyday. That being said it is very difficult not to care lol. But I feel that is even more reason to just do it so slowly you give very few fs.

I got dumped one valentines day back in 2010. His friends were like no wonder why she hates you. At least I got a free dinner ?.

Rejected Rosebud

I really think that Valentine's day is bogus and just a promotional gimmick supporting greeting cards and florists that has grown monstrous ...

So I wouldn't suggest you take yourself out for Valentine's day. But if you want to go to the movies on February 14, you should definitely do it!

If you are sentimental about Valentine's day, though, maybe reconsider. You'll surely see mushy couples everywhere you go.

I'll wake early and have a simple breakfast and coffee.

Next, lace up and run my heart out.

Then brunch with friends.

I'll be showered and in pajamas by 1 p.m.

Home on my couch, I'll cuddle with my cats while drinking wine and watching movies.

I'll embrace the calmness and quiet.

I will eat more chocolate than I should.

My suggestion, if you want to go out, then go out. Who really cares how people look at you, is the opinion of nameless strangers really that important?

Having said that I have done what you are contemplating doing, quite a few times and I must be honest it doesn't feel very great to sit there on ones own when everyone else has a partner. I once took this even further and went out for dinner on my own and that wasn't great all, entire restaurant with couples and single me...

My valentine this year goes by the name of squat rack...lol

What I mean is, just do what makes you happy, like others have said here.

If going to a movie on valentine's day will make you happy, do it.

If throwing eggs at the overly affectionate couples in public on valentine's day will make you happy, do it (although I don't recommend :p )
