Can too much sun and Chlorine mess up a TATTOO???

Okay... So, my friend wants to get a tattoo. He is going to be lifeguarding for most of the summer. I have heard people tell him that the sun and the chlorine from the pool will make the tattoo get really light. Is this true??? He wants to get a black tattoo. I figured it fade if it was a color one.... Any advice would be most helpful!!!

Chlorine will have no effect on a tattoo. However, whatever Michael Jackson uses....that may have an effect. Not sure what he uses, though.

Chlorine isn't a problem....buttttt....sun damage is. I wear zinc on my tats when I'm at the beach/pool. You can get this clear zinc gel now.

I've heard that both can. And my husband has permanent proof of it. A nice, dark green (used to be black) tattoo that he's already had recolored once.

Yes sun can fade them and chlorine can pretty much only when the tat is new and still healing (from what I understand)

 

I personally had a tat on my shoulder and got in a jacuzzi after it was 2 weeks old and the color was shocked right out of it...got it recolored and it's been fine eversince but literally all the blue was gone.

 

My suggestion is that he wears sunscreen all the time he works that should keep his tat nice for years.

Yeah, def just the new ones. The ones exposed to sun over time will fade. Mine aren't too exposed thank goodness.
