Debster
Hi, I'm devastated about my cat all of a sudden deciding to piss all over my shoes. Not my husband's shoes - only mine. I thought it might be that she was feeling lonely or mad at me, so I purposely spent a lot of last night giving her a cuddle and spending time with her. After a while she got up off my lap, walked past her litter box and pissed on my shoes. I called the vet and she said it is behavioural. Has anyone had this problem before? She doesn't act mad at me. There hasn't been any changes in our house lately - other than the fact that we are trying to conceive. Any cat lovers out there who can shed some advice??
CurlyIam
I'm sorry to hear about that. I once had a cat who all of a sudden decided to poop inside my mom high hilled shoes. Yup, that's where she loved to do it. She wasn't very house broke, I admit and stopped after a while, I think... I don't quite remember, we gave it to our grandparents afterwards, it happened years ago. Try putting your shoes inside the cupboard. If it's a male, it's his way of marking his territory. they're very instinctive animals, that's all I can say.
hotgurl
my friend had a cat who did that. He just didn't like any other pets in the house. So tehy got rid of him to a couple with no pets and he stopped. He peed everywhere though especially on thier brand new $1000 couch
hotgurl
oh i just thought of this I heard if you put tin foil over where they spray they'll stop because they don't like the noise. Have you changed anything? Type of scented products you use ect.. food, litter? litter box, placement? routine changes? feeding times.
blind_otter
One of my dogs likes to eat the left shoe of various pairs of shoes in my posession. The only thing I could do was buy one of those shoe organizer thingies that you hang in your closet, and keep my shoes off the ground. He only does it when he's pissed off at me (no pun intended) -- but it most likely IS behavioral....
Author Debster
Thanks. To answer your posts: She is a female. I will try putting the shoes in a cupboard so she can't get at them. It is distressing though becuase I don't know why she is doing it. No, we don't have any other pets. We haven't changed anything in the products we use. Same shampoo, soap, etc. She has the same littler, food, etc. As for the feeding time, she has an automatic feeder that will feed her at the same time each day. My husband has been spending more time in a room that she is not allowed in and doing a lot of work in the garden. I thought it might be either that he brought in some 'smell' from outdoors she doesn't like or she's mad that she has not had as much access to him - but it's MY shoes - not his that are getting pissed on. Any other tips?
moimeme
Cats will sometimes urinate outside the box to tell you something's wrong with them. I agree that you should hide your shoes and you may have to use one of the cat odour eliminators to get her to avoid that spot but it might be worth a checkup if she continues. I know it can be behavioural, but as you say there haven't been that many changes in her life.
