millefiori
Take a hot bath with some some good smelling oils (lavender relaxes and makes sleepy). Drink some hot milk with honey. I heard the protein in the milk and the sugar in the honey cause an increase of serotonin in your body, making you happy and relaxed. The smell of hop also causes sleepiness (the same stuff that is in beer). I've seen them sell pillows with hop, but I never tried it. And most important, don't try too hard to relax, because then it won't work. In the long term I would recommend you to learn some relaxation techniques if you have this kind of problem more often. I asked my sports psych this as well because I always had trouble sleeping in the hotel the night before a big game, and was told to take a hot bath, wrap up in a warm blanket. Sometimes we turn the bathroom fan on tomake "white noise".
quankanne
sex will take care of the stress (so will a good, long bout of deep laughter -- the kind where you're laughing so hard you're leaking from one end or another) there's a Tylenol product called simply sleep that will help you sleep without feeling drugged the next morning. I have trouble sleeping in beds other than my own, so this is my solution for overnight trips. The nice part is that the stuff isn't addictive.
westernxer
Also may want to try Valerian Root. It's totally natural, and you can buy it at any health food store.

Yes, that's true. I've forgotten about it. It calms the nerves. I knew a guy who took them before exams. I'm not sure about alcohol, I think it doesn't make you have a good sound sleep, but it's more of the restless kind. I can't really talk about my own experience with this as I've never tried it. I don't really have that often problems with getting sleep. I used to worry before about things sometimes, causing me to lie awake and night and brood about things, but in the last couple of years I just go to bed, regardless what I'm worried about. I had just decided one day that I needed sleep and that was it. It's been my attitude since then and I fare well with it. My problem is more to get out of bed the next morning. I just lie there and ponder about them till it's really late.

Any advice on how i can relax and get to sleep? Dude, watching "Big Brother Up-late" on Channel 10 does it for me everytime... one look at that sad bunch makes me feel happy, liberated and clever... the perfect recipe for a sound nights sleep... Until I wake up a hour later to those Ab Cruncher informercials, no wait, it was acne treatment this morning (as I rolled off the couch at 1.30am)
