na49
I'm graduating this May, but still have no job offer or anything lined up. I've been applying, but have had no luck so far. It's discouraging to see people on Facebook having all of this success. It's also discouraging when my brother walked out of college into his current job. I've considered asking him to get me a job where he works, but I don't know if that would work. It's hard to stay positive even when people tell me I'll be fine, and that a lot college graduates have this problem. To anyone who has been in this situation, or is job searching, how do you stay positive? How do you believe that things will work out?
alphaa
When i struggled to get a job after school i stopped fussing. I took whatever came my way. I sent applications in restaraunts small stores didnt matter where. I needed a job and i got one with a landscaping company, then some other stuff, then in some stores and so on. Once you start working things come along. go everywhere and sign up and apply, because if you really are looking for a job no matter what you'll find it. And your now coming out of school so work experince is gonna help you alot. I stayed positive by doing thinngs when i was at home. Gyming, getting fit, reading and learning, cooking washing and all that. Becoming more independant and learning to do things all on my own. So while your searching for a job dont sit on the couch and do nothing because time will be going. Enjoy your time home and better yourself as well.
thecrucible
I struggled like you after university to get a job. My first I got by sending out emails to companies I liked and eventually one took me on as a temp where I did admin stuff and worked on the phones. I also volunteered at a local museum, they took me on because they wanted to help me out and then that eventually lead to my current museum job and I had contacts who put in a good word from me. I feel lucky to be where I am and when you spend months looking for something permanent, you really appreciate it when you get a job. It took me almost 2 years to get a permanent job. I think the main thing is to know that all jobs are helpful regardless of what they are - you are always going to learn something and the main thing is to get any job at first to show that you are committed to working. Once you have a job, you try your best and hope it will lead to something better. I've learned a lot of skills through all kinds of work and it doesn't have to be high flying stuff - you learn about how different kinds of organisations work, about work politics (more important than I initially thought), how to work with diverse sets of people and other skills like time management and working in a team. Another thing I did was to seek out people around me such as careers advisers at my university to help give me direction and guidance for job applications. You should also know that you don't have to feel pressure to figure out what your career will be. You can take it one step at a time.
brothers343
Where I work is very competitive. There were 35 positions open, 1100 people applied for those positions. When something is meant for you.....you will have it. Keep your head up and try to do right by others. The lord will give you want you want. Ofcourse it's in his time not yours. Good luck
kat2008
Hi I too am looking for work at moment and it is really hard to stay positive. Different situation for me, as I moved countries and have only recently been able to obtain a work permit after 4 years! I do voluntary work in areas I am interested in - vainly hoping it might lead to a permanent or even temporary at the moment, job offer. However it is useful just to keep skills topped up and you never know who you might meet and network with. Keeping busy is really important as suggested above. Good luck!! sportygirl89
I have my first interview at a job in March. No where locally has done hiring yet. So I get you. But yes God will provide for you. I have a feeling this may not be time for me to move, but if it's the only job my parents said they'd figure something out.
