Ok, for months now I've been burning my candle at both ends. Just when I think I'm gonna get some chill time, got more to do.

When I was like teens/20s, I had a period I survived on barely any sleep, Coca-Cola (not the nasty US one, I do Pepsi now) and Yucca chips (which made my butt grow)

Anywho, since last night I've been pissy and period already went by...could it be the lack of sleep? I'm so ready to sleep in tomorrow :)

I will be very busy for the next month or so, so this isn't gonna stop anytime soon. Not sure how long I can go on like this...I'm almost 40 you know.

You need to either learn better time management skills, become more efficient, or reduce your workload.

Sleep is incredibly important, and not something that should be sacrificed over an extended period of time. It's simply not healthy and will negatively impact your life in many ways. You need to make your health a priority, and sleep is a vital aspect of that.

Get yourself into a good bedtime routine, have a hot bath with mineral salts.

Make time for yourself each day, nothing is more important than your health!

At 40 it's harder to stay up continuously late hours and function well the next day. You're not a teen or in your 20's anymore. If I don't get enough sleep for 2 - 3 days I am pissy and grumpy, don't feel well and feel down.

Yes, it could be. There was an interesting study by Yoo et al. a few years ago that showed sleep deprivation hindered the part of the brain that regulates emotions (prefrontal cortex) from doing its job.

BTW, sleep deprivation not only makes us more grouchy it can also increase your risk for falling asleep at the wheel.

Have you tried sleeping polyphasically? If you can master it, it's great for people who have little time to sleep.

I need between eight and nine hours of sleep a day and get it. Your body needs sleep to keep itself regulated. Not getting enough sleep is abusing your body.

Start making sleep a priority. If you don't you'll age quick.

Not everyone needs 8 hours of sleep every night. I need only 6 hours and I don't feel tired during the day. There are some people who automatically awake after 4 hours feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Apparently this is gene dependant-

BBC - Future - The people who need very little sleep

So, if you're only getting a few hours of sleep but feel energetic regardless, perhaps that's all you need, unless you're running on adrenaline.

It's probably best to make more time for sleep. If you feel better after sleeping more, then you have your answer.

I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I just can't switch my brain off at night. I was experiencing night terrors for about 3 months but they finally stopped about a month ago. I am trying to take it easy. Getting exercise and avoiding coffee too close to bedtime helps.

I suffered from sleep deprivation on periods... tried the sleeping pills and that worked for a'week or two, it's best not abused, and even worse getting hooked on them

As you mention about teen and twenties that was my weed time and that helped me a lot rolling my blunt before hitting the sack. Legal in CA and Colorado. Still illegal even as 'medecine' elsewhere.

Trying to have physical activities preferably not in the evening and more ideally before dinner, running, cycling, swimming. And also instead of meds or pot, turning off the computer and phone, opening a good book help fall asleep than a flat-screen on for hours before sleeping.

Get your schedule back, Gloria. :) Sleep deprivation in the long run leads to insanity.

Agree to everyone above.

Take a nice warm bath with lavender , sip up a warm herbal tea and before you know it, you will be yawning your way into bed.My wife does this and it works !

I run a very busy schedule (leave the house at 6:30 in the morning, often not getting back home till 9:30 at night!), luckily I am one of those that can feel well rested on 5-6 hours a night - and despite not getting many hours in, I do sleep well, here are some of my tips:

Bedrooms are for SLEEPING. No TVs in there, avoid "screens" before bed. It's a dark, quiet place for rest (okay and sex :p )

Have a routine, I try to put down the screens, swicth to a book, or better yet some cuddling on the couch to unwind for bed. I have to have at least 30 mins of quiet time.

Masterbate, hey, if sex isn't on the menu, few things better than a self induced O to help me drift off to sleep.

Sleep is very important, affects our mood, health and ability to function!

I'm with you. Less than 9 hours on a regular basis and I become unable to function. If left to my own devices (ie, don't have an alarm or anywhere to be) I'll easily sleep between 8 and 10 hours a day, every day.

I can do a couple of nights of little sleep, but more than that and my brain stops working.
