Should I look at the ring or be surprised????

Recommended Posts

My guy and are are eloping. Early on when we looked at rings we looked at several different styles and he really liked the three stone bands- since both of us have been married before and this is a new start. I asked for a CZ because of the cost of a diamond. He works two jobs right now because he's paying off debt from his divorce and such. I would much rather have a CZ now than have him have to keep working a second job for a long time after we're married! He wasn't really into that idea because he wanted me to have a fancy ring but I finally talked him into it.

He ordered my ring from a jeweler friend of his. He picked out a setting just like he would for a diamond ring and then had the CZ's set in it. He has excellent taste and I'm sure it's going to be beautiful.

I had told him before that I didn't want to see the ring until the ceremony so I could be surprised. The ring is in now and the jeweler says I really need to try it on so he can make any adjustments if necessary before the ceremony. I laughed and said I was going to ask him to blindfold me so I couldn't see it. The thing is, I DO want to see it but then again I want to be surprised. I think he wants me to look at it to see what my reaction is.

I'm undecided. What would you do?????

I would want to see it and try it on. Once I'm married I would hate to give it back to the jeweler to get it sized. I would get it out of the way so it can be perfect on the wedding day.

Plus, I would be to excited and I'm like a little girl I need to see it NOW :p !!

I would want to wait and be surprised! You can have the jeweler size your finger and not have to actually try on the ring. Tell your guy that the jeweler called and what is going on and ask him what he would like! He might want you to try it on now.

If it doesn't fit quite right the jeweler can adjust it after the wedding and it will probably only be gone a few days.

I have a couple of CZ pieces that I ordered from one of the home shopping channels a long time ago. They are big pieces (I couldn't afford nor would I want an 8ct diamond!) but they look exactly like my diamond - only a jeweler can tell the difference. I sometimes wear them with my wedding ring and because they are in solid gold settings they look 'real'. Diamonds give off heat and that is one way of determining if the stone is real and some of the top-quality CZ's give off heat also--just not as much.

Don't know if this helps, but I had my fiance's wedding band custom made by a jeweler friend. She has an idea of what is looks like as she saw the mold; however when the ring came in we met with the jeweler. What I did was stand between her and the jeweler, took her arm and showed her hand to the jeweler while blocking her view. She tried on the ring and the jeweler and I oood and awwwd over the ring. I even forced a tear to excite her even more that the ring looked so beautiful on her finger. I then took it off her hand, knowing it fit, and it has been locked in my safety deposit box to this day. She has another 8 weeks to go before she can look at the ring. But I cannot wait for her to see it the day of the wedding. She is so excited and I know that it will make the day even better with waiting to see our rings. In retrospect, I have not seen my ring as well.

Good luck to you and congrats.

Sizing is not a issue, I am a perfect size 5.

I'm going to try and not look!

Ring sizes are standard, I believe. Go get your finger measured. You don't need to try on that ring for that to work - any ring should do.
