Based on looks alone: Is there an "opposites attract" sort of thing going on?

When I say looks I mean features such as hair color and eye color.

 

I notice that among a lot of people (especially attractive people) there is this "opposites attract" sort of thing going on. Like Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones type of deal.

 

One of my close friends from college was a good looking guy with blonde hair and blue eyes. Even among white women, the type who were crazy for him were some of the darker ones that were of the Italian, Spaniard, and just tanned skin/darker feature variety.

 

Now I am an Indian guy but I am more on the light skin side, kinda like Zayn Malik or Dev Patel as opposed to a really dark Indian person. I've noticed over the years that among redheads and just girls with pale skin and freckles (especially blondes), I get a ton of attention.

 

Even looking around, I notice the following:

 

1. Tons of good looking blondes with white men that have darker features as opposed to the Chris Hemsworth type of guys.

 

2. Mostly all good looking brunettes with blonde or redhead guys, as opposed to the John Stamos type of men.
