If you know ANYTHING about sunburns..can you tell me if its okay for my skin to look like this 9-10 days after I was burned????

XNem, this actually is pretty normal... this is the new skin growing and your old skin shedding...

Although, you must have been pretty badly burnt! I go the same thing several times in a summer (smack me, I'm naughty, I know!).

The redness, tightness and pain for the first few days is because your blood is drawn to the surface as your cells have been damaged. As the skin repairs the redness fades while your new cells start coming to the surface. When this happens the old skin dies (peeling) and you get the spots where the new skin comes through.

You will be back to normal in a few days - but moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. Another good trick is to have a tea bath - soak a whole load of tea bags in your bath water. The antioxidants in tea speed the healing process. If you don't have a bath, steep some tea bags in warm water and dab on your skin.

Rubbing tomatoes on your skin is another trick. Vinegar isn't so good as its acidic and drying - its cooling initially but has no good long term effects.

Aloe Vera is also great - but not so much stuff in the bottles. Go raid some plants if you have them in your area (in the middle of the night if you have to) and rub the stalks directly on your skin.

Oh love, you'll be right - just don't scratch if you are itchy!!! I find a cold damp cloth on the burn takes the itch out.

As I said, I do it every summer - I have no effects now, but I will hate to see how I look in my 40's!!!

I wanted to go to the doctor but my mom and dad pretty much laughed at me then said they didn't want to pay for it (I'm no longer covered by my mom's health insurance so its super expensive for me to see one).

What kind of morons are these?

Yeah, moi....I think that's pretty common. It's not like here where every resident has medical coverage.....kinda sad I think :(

I should stop reading through posts so quickly, I missed that warning!

:( I'm sorry about that....I know it's a pretty gross picture. I hate to think what damage I have done to my skin with that lake trip.

Thank you so much....I'm glad someone says thats normal. I have been freaking out over it. I have had many sunburns in my life (mostly from the tanning bed) and I don't remember it taking so long to heal and looking quite this bad so long after I burned myself. Also...maybe it is just me but it seems like my burns from the tanning bed haven't been so severe as this one from the actual sun. Thanks for those suggestions! I definitely need to use the damp cloth...the itching is driving me craaaazy!

That's my parents for you. I think they are just sick of giving me money. I don't blame them in a way....and jellybean is right. It's different in the states. Not everyone has medical coverage which means a lot of people can't see a doctor when they need to...it IS kinda sad....
