Bliss
I read your original post once more, and now it seems to me that your outlook on the world is not sick, it's real. But if you let the negativity consume you, you wouldn't be able to live.

scarlyjones
Originally posted by suegail Well, it upsets me too. I really don't like to see hundreds of trees torn down, areas of natural wildlife destroyed all for the sake of having a new super shopping mall and mc donalds in its place. I know of people who've had to give up their farms because the state came through and said 'we're going to build a new highway.' Money in the pocket, yes, but all that natural landscape destroyed, ponds drained, trees down, everything covered in cement. Do we accept violence in the world? I think in alot of ways we do. "Bad things happen because there are bad ugly people in the world. But let's not think about it too much. Let's think about all the good." I do believe that is the attitude of many in the world unfortunately. And it has been a misfortune for people in all parts of this world because unaffected people tend to turn their backs. Are people concerned with things in life that just don't matter? You said it well and you know it's true. It's that little thing you mentioned called 'greed' It'll eventually take you where you don't want to be, because you won't want to leave this world without it. I think you're doing just fine. I think you're just highly aware of the world around you and I think you're not placated by the 'it's not me, it's them, it's someone else's problem,' line of thinking. I see that as a sign of strong character. Well guess what?......That house YOU are living in right now? Well, trees and wildlife and possibly water was wiped out to make room for THAT. And if you have EVER eaten at a McDonalds, then you cant make that argument either
suegail
Well, guess what? I wasn't trying to make an argument: I didn't consider this a debate. I was simply offering an opinion... but thank you for pointing that out.

This_Too_Shall_Pass
Oh boy....look at all of us here, getting into a knot over one person's view. I don't want to say a "16-year-old's view", that would discredit P&D, besides wounding him deeply. Ah, he is entitled to have his thoughts. But hey...look at all of us here, well into their 20s, 30s and beyond - what are we trying to do? Outperforming each other in "intellectual debate"? Or trying to prove that it's us who has the best understanding of the grand scheme of things?! And trying to enlighten P&D at the same time......oh boy. I would agree with some of the comments, the one about there being the "shadow side" of the moon, and the need to be aware of it. The tough part is, you can't really know the shadow side unless you have been actually affected by it in some way. Ironically, too, once you are affected by it, you don't see it with as much fear as others do. You also learn that even amongst all the hell-fire breaking loose, you will find a way to keep yourself amused - because, you have to do other stuff in life besides merely thinking (and that's not even about yourself!) And that's what you'll learn by and by, P&D. I do agree with a lot of D'Art's comments here, about actually needing to have a good understanding and a rounded perspective, in order to know how to accept both good and bad. Most of all, to understand human nature. Arrghhh...now it's me starting my own bit of spiel P&D, I really think you need to change your name though. I'm sure it appears unique enough to you right now, besides having the edge of "impact". But it's not savory to see someone with that name, you'll think so too in 5 years. You're, not your. LOL...Westernxer, finally someone did speak up against that!! I see so many people here saying "your welcome" and stuff like that...I've had this urge to correct them so many times! SummerRae
I know where you're coming from P&D. I think you're on the verge of some great growth spurts. You are moving at a fast pace. I was where you are when I was about 20ish... "Dark Night of the Soul" (I think it's by Thomas Moore) may help to clarify some of the deeper reasons for why you are experiencing this sort of "pessimistic" view on life. I completely agree with D'Arthez. I had to go through all the pain, depression & pessimism to really SEE the world.
westernxer
I agree that the world can be a screwy place, but it's all we've got.
Fish Soil
People murder, rob, abuse, and rape. I never have, most of my friends never have, I'm willing to bet you never have. Don't blame yourself for the acts of others. They say the planet is messed up, but I've visited many wooded areas and enjoy nature to it's fullest. I don't know your age, When I was 22ish I felt despair at many things, I got over it as I aged.
