reservoirdog1
I'm naturally skeptical of self-help books. Actually, I'm naturally cynical, period. But I picked up the Body-For-Life book recently. Anybody tried it? As in, stuck with it pretty faithfully? What kind of results did you see?
Blackfrost
I am currently on week 7 of BFL. I have never seen such an amazing transformation in my body, as I have seen through this program. Despite various nay sayers and the crowd of "i'm on week ten and haven't seen any results" I can honestly say that this program kicks ass!! I'm 37 years old, so my metabolism died a long time ago, but this program has kickstarted it into high gear for the first time in 10 years. I lose on average about 3lbs per week. I follow the program exactly as written with the exception of not taking any worthless expensive suppliments, or eating out of control on my free day. Foodwise I have not cheated even once on this program, because the diet is everything I love to eat anyways, and your always eating (6 meals a day) so you're never hungry...not like South Beach and Atkins The real key to suceeding at this program is in the gym. You have to workout at the level that he talks about in the book. It's a punishing and grueling amount of strain and effort for short periods of time each day, but the results have been absolutely amazing. Once you get past the "i don't want to get out bed again this morning, and go to the gym, 6 days a week" it actually becomes very addicting, to the point where I normally even go on my free day to get in an extra 20 minutes of cardio, or I don't feel good for the day hahahahaha. If my pertually lazy butt can do this program and see the results i'm seeing, then I reccomend it to anyone whose serious about making an enormous tranformation to their physical and mental health. Already several of my coworkers have rushed out and bought this book, because they are in awe of what I turning into physically, from this program. Best moment was yesterday morning when I had gone through my last 4 belt notches on these 7 weeks, and had to take a hammer and a nail to pound a new belt notch hole, because my pants were falling down so badly hahahaha Plus my wife can't keep her hands off me now. She just keeps saying "O my god. everytime I see you in the house I have to do a double take, because you don't look at all like the person I have been married to for the last 10 years, you actually look like your 10 years younger, and are my new boytoy" hahahaha
laRubiaBonita
so... Blackfrost, you mean to tell me that DIET and EXERCISE are the keys to weight loss and maintenance?
Blackfrost
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA awesome reply!! Specifically with Body for Life, I've found this program to have made much more effective and quicker changes to my body, then many of the ones I've tried before it. Nobody wants to go to the gym everyday and still look the same, week in and week out, with maybe a 1 lb loss every two weeks or so. I know alot of people who can't quite fathom why the gym is not really improving their bodies on levels outside of waiting 5 months to really notice many results.
Author reservoirdog1
Hey BF, glad to hear it's working! Have you noticed improved muscle definition and toning, as well as weight loss?
Blackfrost
the muscle definition is just starting to really show up, now that enough body fat has been lost - and for toning - wow - my legs and arms are starting to have defined shape!!. I figure I'm down to about 14% BF at this point. Ideally i'd like to get under 10% BF within the next 10 weeks - that's when I'm going on a nice long tropical vacation, which I've set as my end goal reward for completing this. It would be nice to see all those abs again - they've been hiding for too long.
arcadia
i think the workout guidlines in the BFL diet are great. they're efficient and easy to get into. However i think my problem with the BFL diet was that the diet wasn't strict enough (i know, sounds weird). But for some reason my metabolism just doesnt want to kickstart unless i make a drastic change in diet. I loved the food on the BFL diet, which i think is why it wasnt effective for me. The diet has you eating lots of carbs and lots of protein. Those high fat protein bars just didnt do it for me. perhaps i wasnt working out enough <shrug> i wouldnt say that you shouldnt give it a try, but unless you are prepared to work out extra hard, it wont be very effective. you are better off with a diet that limits your food intake a little bit more
