incognito2
I have my first job interview EVER tomorrow and I need opinions about what I should wear.. I don't have any "professional looking" clothing but it's only a super market job so would some dark flared jeans and a nice shirt be ok? The only other bottoms I have are some orange jeans, and a long green hippie skirt! (I just ripped a big hole in my only nice looking pants last week) Any opinions would be appreciated! moimeme
NO JEANS!!!! If you're going to work for a living, you need office appropriate clothes. If the interview is in the afternoon, run out and buy a decent pair of black slacks or a black skirt. If it's in the morning, surely you must have some other clothes!!!! Rosalind
Hiya incognita..... Excellent question!.....most work places are now 'business casual' as far as apparell. Only Fridays are 'jeans days'. You don't need a skirt or dress, but you MUST do as moimeme says : have a decent pair of black pants....team that with one of your more conservative tops. And good luck with the interview! brashgal
For a supermarket job I think dark jeans (no holes, etc) and a nice shirt is appropriate. No sandals. Good luck!!

Treasa
It's better to overdress than underdress. I once beat out over 30 people getting a job. It was for a job at a place that sold beer t-shirts, cheese foam hats (I live in Wisconsin - and yes, those things DO look stupid), shot glasses, etc. I wore a dress, makeup, jewelry, and nice shoes. You know what I was told when I was hired later that same day? "Well, you probably would have gotten it anyway, but the reason we hired you was because you were the only one to dress up. Everyone else came in jeans." No matter where you're interviewing for, look professional. Mind you, if you're applying for a job as a garbage man, you probably don't have to wear a full suit complete with dress jacket, but do look nice.
greenhorn
The importance of proper dressing lies in the fact that it shows how much serious you are for the interview, so if you dress properly it reflects your intention. The ideal dress should be a formal one, not something like a suit but certainly a shirt and dark coloured skirt. I would not suggest a Jeans, but this is a supermarket job so I am not sure, you might wear jeans but not orange colored. Just wear a simple, good and serious looking dress and that's all. Good Luck for the interview

Author incognito2
I got the job! I ended up borrowing a pair of black pinstripe pants from my mom, because most everyone I asked said that jeans aren't appropriate! Thanks for the advice everyone!
