Can you take a short walk in the morning after work? Apparently 15 minutes of sunshine a day is enough for a light-skinned person to get all the Vit D you need with a decent diet (I recall reading a study about that recently, at least).

Can your H cook good meals for you, since you are understandably tired working such long hours?

I can try walking, depends on the ear/dizziness. It'll be a few days, I think. I guess I'm just looking for input on the D (not THAT D!) supplements and results, since everything else is kinda hanging in the ear, er, air right now. :)

Yes, he can cook, but nothing ever sounds good. Maybe that will change soon. I hope.

Oh, right. Poor Middy. :(

Walking would be best (I think I also read that physical activity helps absorption), but if you can't walk due to dizziness then for the time being maybe just bask in the yard? Sit in a yard chair in the sun for about 15 minutes, take the time to relax or something.

Crossing my fingers for you!

Yes, I'm drinking them, over Cheerios. More beef and chicken than fish, tho. At least I'm not anemic. My good to bad cholesterol ratio is outrageously high, so they didn't scold me too much.

I blew an eardrum, it's 75% gone. The nonstop ringing, dizziness and pain are surely affecting my appetite, therefore energy. It's vicious, and going on three months.

I know what would help the appetite :) but can't have any!

All my other lab work is fine, so I need to get this done before spores creep into my brain.

I tend to chow down when on pain meds too, so that should help.

Ouch! I had an eardrum burst when I was ten years old. It takes a while to clear that up. Dang - I'm sorry.

It affected my sense of smell - I have nearly none, which isn't such a bad thing.

Sending healing energy. Take a vitamin supplement! Does the D come in a time release? I take my iron tablet and B-12 in time released which makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks for the reply S2B. Sorry to hear about yours. Did it heal on its own?

Yea, it's a miserable sitch. I don't know that D necessarily comes in time release, as it takes its good old time all on its own absorbing, depending on what food you have in your gut. The others, yes, I have timed release as well as instant.

I'm planning my last meal. Grilled burgers, dripping with cheese. Should help absorb the D. :)

I got the transdermal lotion yesterday. I'm assuming it has to be rubbed in somewhere with body fat. I may be short, but my hands can still reach my ass! This is why the comment a bit back about body fat melting off me was so amusing. I am actually too thin, and not in a particularly healthy way.

I've pondered the sense of smell too, and wonder if I haven't lost some. On the bright side, it helps at work, where I change poopy diapers. :)

My neighbor knows someone who has been trying to get a graft to take for TWO years! It's her second graft. It sounds positively miserable. I have to ignore that and think of the actual failure rate; I just got lucky and heard about THAT one. And, based on her family, I'll bet she smokes. Nothing worse you can really do for it.

Anyway, I have a few hours to run out and get a preop EKG, they do that to us old people now. :lmao:

No posting yommy recipes after 11pm, please and thanks!

Heal on its own? No!

I had many appointments at the specialist to drain the fluid and then waiting for it to scab over and dry out. Several months of antibiotics too.

I was in bed with a fever for months.

Ugh, how miserable. And at ten! You'd have been climbing the walls if you had the energy. :(

I think what happened was the first antibiotic she gave me wasn't strong enough, or wasn't the right one. Even tho she said 'I'm giving you more than the 'usual', because I'm worried about your mastoid bones'.

My biggest fear is that there's still lingering infection, and the graft will blow out as well. I don't have a fever tho, just the general run down feeling.

Will find out soon enough, I suppose.

I've had a really severe vitamin D deficiency. I only found out because I ended up covered in a really itchy rash which was identified as the deficiency. I was given a 12 week course of really high dose Vit D 20,000iu three times a week. Unfortunately I work inside and during the winter I didn't see daylight at all due to working. Currently I'm working and studying- so still not seeing a lot of daylight :/ that should change in a few months though

Thanks for your story. Am hoping you get to see some light soon! I'm in the same boat, unfortunately, but am coming up on a little bit of time to get out.

Did the course of high dose D help? Did you feel generally run down as well?

Yeah I felt exhausted and miserable and just put it down to extreme work stress. In fact I still feel like that- so now it probably is just work stress along with everything else!

It took my GP a while to work out what was wrong as it was such an odd rash that didn't seem to respond to anything. A few weeks of Vit D fixed it though.

It must have been because last summer was the first where I was working full time. The 3 weeks in California can't have been long enough ;)

Hey how'd surgery go?

I was cut on at 7:15 and home by 10:30, eating Taco Bell. ) A little more pain than I expected, probably because it's my head, and I'm laying down. I'll try sitting up later.

There wasn't anything left of my eardrum (I had 25% left on 5/12). Not sure if that impacts the chances of the graft taking or not.

Anyway, just happy to have it over with! Thanks! Food, drugs, my furry friends, and HGTV tonight.

So glad you're on your way to recovery! Fingers crossed that it will be a success but you can still pretend you can't hear sometimes if you want to.

If you knew my husband, you'd know exactly how handy that can be!

I married into the LOUD family.

Does it seem like you feel better?

You know, the ear 'noise' is better, but everything's pretty muffled. I have to keep it stuffed with ointment/cotton for three weeks.

It's hard to tell, the pain just set in again. And no one warned me that belching would hurt, OMG! I hope I don't have to sneeze. They must really manipulate your head around, because my lower molars/jaw on that side hurt. Yet the right front side of my face is kinda numb. They probably blocked the area where they took the graft, but it should have worn off by now.

I'm sure I'll have a better idea in the morning. More tacos, more narcotics!

Once you've healed, do get your blood checked vitamin and mineral counts. I do monthly B12 shots, and I triple dose my vitamin D. talk to your Dr about the vitamin D, maybe there are shots for that? Make sure your magnesium is okay and iron too.

Thanks!

I just had all the blood work a week ago. I'm going to have her recheck in about three months. I'm doing everything you are, plus some (except the B12 shots, I think I'm good there). Mg and iron are fine, but I take extra Mg anyway. H gets me iron with all of his meat (something about that didn't sound right! - he's a grilling/smoking fool). Feel great today, but part of that is having the surgery over with.

As for the D, I think an injection would mean a depo type thing, since it's fat soluble. I'm not sure I'd trust the absorption; it's not something you want too much of. I'm pretty sure I can get it up with the liquid form, diet and light. We're coming into a heat wave (of course) and I can't get the ear wet. :( Sweat and an ear canal full of goo don't mix well. Argh.

That's okay, I want this eardrum!
