The disadvantage of OK Cupid

Something I've noticed with OK Cupid, it makes you "Browse Matches" not browse single people in general in the X-mile radius based on the filters you choose like on POF.

The system makes the decision FOR you, yes? So basically, when you click "Browse matches" it ONLY pulls up with the SYSTEM thinks who you'd think you'd be a good match with.

Fortunately, I see in the right margin, "You might like..." and it shows thumbnails of people and frankly, I spend more time clicking on them than I do my own matches, which frankly I've already exhausted my options there...as the same people keep popping up.

But there's usually something new in the "you might like" section.

Thoughts on this?

You can set, change, or clear your filters, and browse anyone within various distances, regardless of how well they "match" you. It seems like a lot of people are 0% matches because they are too new and haven't answered any questions, yet I still see them.

If you've exhausted options and the same people keep popping up, you live in an area that's too sparsely populated to be conducive to any effective OLD use anyways.

I'm actually considering casting my net further out geographically. Like from 1 hour drive to 2 hour drive.

Just started doing that.

I don't think that's true, though. I haven't been on OKC for quite a while, but I'll occasionally lurk with my roommate's account. It seem like it pulls up everyone who matching your search criteria, regardless of match percentage, etc. I find the best filters to use are the ones about how long it's been since they've logged on, and whether they're "men looking for women," or "straight men." I've never been able to discern why those are different things, but they bring up different results.

Do you live in the south ? Someone I know from central GA has a heck of a time with matches.
