Anyone Meditate? Does it help at all?

Recommended Posts

I'm a stressful worry wart, i'll be the first to admit it. I worry about things

a lot and will spend my days not really attacking things or going for the

the gusto or following the NIKE slogan :Just Do It.

I have hopes, dreams, ambitions, but I get too stressed and worry about

things and get anxiety about taking charge and bsuting out onto the scene

to make things happen with my career, social-life, etc. I have the HUGEST

good intentions, just can't push myself over the mountain.

I just was wondering if I could find balance in Meditation or Yoga. Sometimes

i feel like I have so many things I want to do or things I want to accomplish to

better myself, that I get clogged up in the brain and can't focus.

Anyone have any solutions? Lately i've been relying on food to make me happya

and when i get stressed or bored or bummed, i eat or look foward to making myself

a HUGE meal when i get home. bad, i know.

Exercise, like a walk in the park, is also good for the mind.

Cut out the comfort food, or else you'll turn into a balloon.

My meditation is doing my art.... for "healthy" stress release i exercise (swim).

i did do yoga...i did not care for it, it was too slow paced for me. I am the type that will dwell in a deconstruvtive way......obsess really, about problems. not the type that can just "think".

i usually have my best ideas, while doing other things...which helps to induce the idea.

Well, He's right about that...

Anyway, Meditation is basicly clearing the mind and blocking out the thoughts, But I find as soon as your done clearing your head the thoughts pour right back in. And you can't meditate 24/7, Because then you would turn into one of those statue-like monks that children like to poke at with sticks. That would be bad too.

Personally, I don't think you should just exercise, i think you should go out and buy a bowflex and get buff. Turn into one of those scary, hulk-like females. Then if anyone says anything throw them through a wall. Then all your problems will be intimidated by your "Guns".

Meditation is actually good for you physically. It lowers blood pressure and is great for stress. Google 'meditation' and you'll find a bazillion sites with techniques. It won't hurt you to try it. When I do it, I just listen. I sit quietly, don't move a muscle, and I don't allow any thoughts to happen. It's hard at first but gets easier after a while. And BOY do I ever feel great after! It's been nicest when I can sit someplace outside but you could do it inside and play some very peaceful instrumental music.

My husband and I met in a meditation class. Yep, I think it really helps, especially if you make an effort to do it regularly.

We have meditation cds, guided visualisation stuff, music, repeated words...i think it's great.

I am a big worrier too and it helps me.

If you want to combine meditation and exercise, you could also look into tai chi. Never tried it myself, but I know people who swear by it.

I find meditation really helpful for stress relief when I do it. Because it can be hard to keep up the habit on your own, a lot of people meet up in meditation classes or groups. These groups are often associated with your local Zen center, but even places like the YMCA, community colleges, and churches have them now.

Circusfood, you sound a lot like me. I am a generally happy and ambitious person but I constantly worry over everything and anything....my relationships, my career, my health, my loved ones' health. Sometimes even the smallest things. I focus too much on the what will happen in the future and not on the here and now, which causes me to procrastinate on actually taking action.

I recently came to discover that I have what is called Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I'm not sure if this is the case for you but if the anxiety has come to the point where you can't concentrate on a regular basis, maybe you should look into it. Other signs are feeling fatigued, having trouble sleeping, lots of headaches, muscle tension. People with GAD know they worry too much but can't stop it!

But whether you think you have it or not, maybe you can benefit from some of the tips given on Web sites for GAD to help you relax. For example, google "coping statements for anxiety." There are some good ones on the Anxiety Network. Other things that could help in addition to meditation and yoga: reading novels has helped me out a lot...decaf tea or other warm drinks...lighting candles is a very simple idea but it can be very soothing. I also cut out the caffeine in my diet as much as possible (which should also decrease your appetite a bit). Schedule yourself a massage once in awhile.

I still have a lot of progress to make but I feel better just knowing that I don't have to go through life like this, always worrying and stressing. Maybe you've heard most of what I said before, but I hope it helps a little because I know how you feel.
