smile95
Aside from your SO, what makes you happy. If you lived oyur life never getting married or having children, could you be happy having other things in your life? Everyone I talk to says they wish they never got married or will never do it again....those I know that are not married, all theywant is to get married,. including myself. Is is possible to lead a fulfilling life alone? What types of things, activities, hobbies, make you all happy? Is it me-or does society revolve the world around couples? And probably hold the opposite belief when you are part of a couple. As how to live a fulfilling life without marriage or children? Take a few good hobbies, that involve you wholly. Do something artistic for example, appreciate the time you can spend in nature. Walk, and enjoy the spring rains, the autumn leafs et cetera. It is not hard to be happy - it comes from relatively small things, which most people easily overlook and neglect.
Author smile95
THe only thing that really has always made me smile and be truly happy are children. I have always loved them. I really want my own, but was thinking about volunteering at my church or gym day care on the weekends. Just to get out and stop thinking about the jerk in my life and start to do things that I enjoy and make me happy.
d'Arthez
These sound like good ideas, as they divert your mind from the jerk. But there are many things to consider. Walking would probably be not the best suggestion, as it will tend to get you in somewhat reflective moods - and that is something you don't need right now. And you will get to spend some time with children in the meanwhile. That in itself can be a very great experience for you. You will learn a bit too, as an added freebie. So I would make work of the ideas you have!

Actually, any exercise is good for depression. It would be worse if she sat home and moped.
alphamale
the "desire" to get married and have children is a predominantly female one...it is societies expectation of them.

Marshbear
I wouldn't let the jerk spoil your dreams of children or marriage. I, like you, have many friends who say they will never get married again and are happy to be divorced. I guess unless you have been there you can't understand the pain your partner can inflict or how they can change your views so drastically. I think you can be happy being single but you don't sound like a person who wants this lifestyle. I would keep yourself busy as you suggested but also don't close your heart to the possibility of a relationship and marriage. Make yourself happy and others will be happy with you. Happiness comes from within and not from someone else. Find that happiness and your life will be complete no matter the outcome... Peace...
