moimeme
Have a read of this article about the relationship between drinking pop and obesity - it's not only non-diet pop you have to worry about!! http://my.webmd.com/content/Article/107/108476.htm?pagenumber=
BrotherAaron
Haha, I thought you meant pop as daddy, as in "Daddy is not your friend" - I was like "Whoa... Moi's posting her issues. Nah, it's not true." And it's not.
Author moimeme
I was like "Whoa... Moi's posting her issues. ROTFL!!! Like this board doesn't see enough issues! LOL Now put down that Dr. Pepper!
reservoirdog1
Are we Canucks the only ones who call it "pop"? Seems Americans always call it soda. We're exactly what General Patton referred to: two nations separated by a common language.
Author moimeme
Well I still call 'em 'soft drinks' - I thought 'pop' and 'soda', as well as the ever-popular 'soda pop' were all American.
Tony Posted July 4, 2005 Senior Moderators Share Posted July 4, 2005 Aspartame (Equal), which most diet drinks are sweetened with, is one of the most poisonous things most people put in their bodies. Consumption of Aspartame is responsible for many deaths, miscarriages, fainting spells, and dozens of other serious symptoms. There's been a lot of research on aspartame so you can google the subject to get more. Meanwhile, we now find out sodas containing Aspartame contribute to weight gain. It's no surprise to me. The really sad part is that you actually fell for that conspiracy theory: http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/columnists/galloway/2000/4/30/
Author moimeme
'Conspiracy theory' or no, the fact remains that this study showed that drinking soft drinks correlates with obesity and that diet soft drinks are even worse for you. And since LSers are forever starting threads about how to lose weight, I thought this would be a useful bit of information.
incognito2
Aspartame isn't good for you at all, I know from experience. My boyfriend is type 1 diabetic and used to drink a lot of Diet Pepsi. (One or two cans a day.) When he stopped drinking it he would go through withdrawl and would become irritable, restless, and couldn't concentrate on anything. He was in denial of it for a while, but eventually made the connection and stopped drinking it. So I believe it does have side effects, and would suggest drinking it under moderation. debs
Moi I agree with your thought process about the ever popular soft drinks! It boils my $#@ when a Diabetic is drinking them and I see them again after I do educate them about the "evils" of soda 5 years down the line in renal failure and I say um hmmmm "You hate your kidneys don't you!" I no longer drink soft drinks on a daily bases! I have seen and experienced the horrors first hand and know now to say coffee, tea or milk!
