Penguin_hugs
I moved to a new area a month ago for my first qualified job (I'm a pharmacist) and I'm struggling to settle in. This area is a typical touristy seaside town and I just don't really know where to begin with making friends etc. I work in different places most days, but I am really trying to be friendly with everyone I meet- but our lives are usually pretty different. I'm 23, no attachments and fairly well educated. I enjoy stimulating conversation about all kinds of different topics. The people I meet at work tend to be older, with families and have never left this county. Occassionally when I have worked with another pharmacist for the day they have been more on my wavelength- but that seems pretty rare. I tried looking on meetup as I've used that before - but there aren't any groups for the under 50s in this area. I also work really irregular hours sometimes. And when I do get time off- I have ended up visiting my friends from back home, or they have come here. I briefly used OLD to meet people- but those I spoke to ended up being from out of the area or just no ambition to leave anywhere or see anything. I have already decided in my head that I don't intend on staying in the area all that long- and I want to use it as a stepping stone. Any tips for how you met people or settled in? anthonyflame
Do hobbies that are social in nature (partner dancing like swing/salsa/cha cha etc), intramural sports, book clubs, volunteering, etc. And when you meet people be outgoing and take initiative in keeping contact with the friends you make. Best advice I can give since meetup hasn't worked out for you. You could try to start a meetup group for 20s-30s since there isn't one in the area but it'll cost you like 10-20 bucks. It's up to you if that's worth it or not. Good luck OP!
Kics
Have you thought of joining classes or clubs around you? There are apps to make friends too depending how big is the place you live. It's hard to be honest :/ good luck!
Author Penguin_hugs
I don't think apps or technology exist in this place I've started looking in to gym classes- but most are during the day when I'm at work. I've started looking in craft shops to see if they have any groups too. Someone who I worked with this week asked for my phone number this week as she is new too
