Life is turning a corner

Recommended Posts

Been a while and I've been busy. I've found a few keys towards my rising sense of wellbeing so I thought I'd share in case anyone is interested.

- Get up early. I get up at 4am these days and I love it. By 8am I've done half a work day.

- Be creative. I was in a corporate career but recently changed to being self employed in a creative pursuit. It's made all the difference in the world to my view on life. I just feel happier exercising my creativity everyday. I'm putting in 10hr days and it feels like play not work. I spent most of my life in the corporate world leaving my creativity to spare weekends. It made me miserable. I had no idea how creatively driven I am. I do now.

- Experience the sunshine, fresh air and yes even the rain for a min 2hrs a day. I make sure I spend time outdoors just enjoying outside every single day. It makes a massive difference to my overall mood.

- Exercise everyday. Goes without saying but it pulls all the kinks out of my body and feels great. I sleep much better this way.

- Challenge myself. Being self employed has a sense of responsibility about it that increases my self esteem. I feel like my life is moving forward again. I'm not at the whims of a corporation nor treading water in a job I hate because I like the pay. Sure it's risky, so is crossing the road.

- Invest my time in people, pets and subjects of interest. I no longer feel as if my days just drift by and my life with it. Everyday is spent doing something of value even if it's only calling a family member and having a chat.

There you have it. My wellbeing plan.

It's great that you can pursue your creative dream job without worrying too much about money. I did a performance arts degree and spent most of my life being self-employed but in poverty :p

Thanks for sharing, Buddhist! I think I enjoy what you wrote, and they are what I want to try and practice more (esp to wake up at 4 am in a very conscious state and not get back to sleep after an hour or so :p).

Keep up the good work!

Decided to crack open again my self help favourite, Power Of The Subconscious Mind. It works every time and I need a little boost these days and reminder to practice this stuff to get results. Easy to fall back into bad habits of believing that life leaves us powerless and at it's mercy.

I practised self forgiveness today which was needed. I've been berating myself for so many shortcomings lately and it was getting me down. The only real way to stop this habit is to remember you have it and make a conscious effort to do something about it.

I can't help where I am right now, but I can sure help where I'm headed to.

You sound very optimistic and confident about what you are doing. I think you got to the right pass.

What exactly happened that changed you?

I had a wakeup call if you like. It was scary but necessary, from there I a while to come to the decision that I am here, I may as well make the most of it. Life won't get better unless I make it better. I'd forgotten that I do have the power to change this, I've done it before. I will do it again and I have a dream that needs to be lived. That's what changed me.

Thought For The Day

Everything in life is a gift even if we choose not to see it that way. My heartbreak was the gift of empathy. Something I considered myself to be lacking previously.

So happy to read this. I've mentioned it in other threads, but I've found you to be one of the more insightful folks I regularly come across on the forum, which only made it tougher to read your struggles.

I can say that your list is filled with habits that I've found make a big difference on my own psyche. It's just a matter of making them a habit that I sometimes struggle with.

In particular, there was a period of time late last year where for some reason, I was waking up at 5 am or earlier and feeling completely refreshed, regardless of when I'd gone to sleep. I'm also self-employed, so it was so invigorating to have a ton of my day's tasks complete before the sky was lit. Really would like to get back into that habit, especially as the nights are going to be coming earlier soon.

Similar story here! I relented when I was recruited for a corporate job almost a year ago. While I've made good progress financially, it's been spiritually trying. But today, someone at a small, private university contacted me about possibly working for the university, reporting to him. Seems a much better fit!! So I'm feeling excited about the possibilities again myself.

I guess you were ready for changes inside of you. Yes, right just a wake up call.

Honestly, when I do small things like going to yoga, gym, just extra time for myself and etc.

It makes me be proud of myself, because I really see improvements not only physically but mentally as well. I feel like I'm an author of my life and I have control of it.

Wealth is a mental concept. All of us have inside ourselves the idea of a century. We are all immeasurably wealthy if we choose to listen within.

I just went to look for that book you mentioned too...tonnes of great reviews!

Amazon UK - it's on offer - 91p!! Wow!

Bought - done! :)

I never ever believe that even if things seem great, OK or manageable that we cannot learn more.

Learning helps stabilise us for bad times.

Most of us end up learning when we are in the bad times but when learning continues..that is when we grow.

I hope we hope we have snow this year - it sticks a stupid grin on my face when I see it sitting delicately on the branches of the trees early in the morning. :)

I'm so thrilled to read this. Like others, I find you uniquely insightful and compelling, and it's hard to think of many people more deserving of self-love and optimism.

Also: hell yeah, early risers' club! I am generally up at 4:30 so I can exercise and enjoy a long hot shower before work. The whole day goes by so much more quickly. And it's great to leave in the afternoon to run errands and do housework before dinnertime. If I get caught in dreadful traffic, that's okay too, because I've already kicked my ass for the day. But I'll still have plenty of time to cuddle up with a book before bed!

Keep on keepin' on, Buddhist. You're an inspiration to all of us.

Yoga always uplifts my mood. My mind follows the feeling in my body. If I feel strong and clean and healthy then my mind tends to be clear and uplifted.

Thought For The Day

I came to a point of acceptance today. I have been coasting, working below my potential and just getting by. All of that has led to a mixed bag of outcomes that really are nobody's fault except my own.

Thought For The Day

There is within all of us a place of absolute serenity. A place where desire no longer exists because all things are already part of who we are. There is no wanting, no yearning just a perfect point of stillness, acceptance and being. That is a place I commit to going to everyday before I do anything else.
