A new OLD dating site for miserable people

Saw this just news article at AZ Family News Channel 3 posted yesterday "Date Miserable People" lol

Here's an excerpt of the article:

Misery is completely subjective to each individual. A member might be 50 years old and still living in his parents' house. Another member might be having a hard time getting over the passing of a family member. Another may not have any family or friends in their life. Let's just face it... some people are just miserable in general. Misery is what each person considers it.

There is no ranking or measurement for the level of discontent or unease in an individual's life. However, the opportunity to meet others, share situations and experiences in an honest and real dating platform may just bring some relief, happiness, content and joy to people's lives.

Since a company went as far as to have created an app for this and charge a subscription service, would you say there's some merit to this and "miserable people finding other miserable people = making the two miserable people...happy"...that they are onto something here?

What you're overlooking is that OLD is a business first and foremost.

I think there's some merit to the idea that they think they can make money selling people hope, supposed acceptance of unfortunate circumstances, and introductions to other people going through the same thing. Whether or not they think it will actually bring people together remains to be seen. Surely it wouldn't hurt, but their primary objective is to extract money from people. If it brings people together, great. If it doesn't, well, that's too bad -- but they're probably not going to give you your money back. They're just a brokerage. Just like any other OLD service, you're just paying them for the opportunity to meet other people. If you believe anything more than that, like that merely having a profile will somehow make someone else overlook your shortcomings, or that miserable people want to meet other miserable people, that's your gamble, not theirs.

All OLD is doing is charging you a cover and letting you into the bar with everyone else. What you do once you're in their is still all on you, not them. You wouldn't pay the cover charge, walk in, strike out with every girl in there, then walk out and demand your money back because no one in there wants to go out with you, would you? No, because the bar doesn't care. They did their job. It's not their fault you struck out.

This bar just happens to be marketed towards miserable people. It's no different aside from that.

The title made me laugh, so I checked it out. One of the first men I clicked on in my area (I didn't sign up, just searched), is a 37-year-old man, looking for women between the ages of 27 and 30. No, thank you.

After seeing the website and branding, the whole "misery" angle they're touting seems like a sort of tongue-in-cheek marketing ploy than anything else.

Kind of like when successful, happy, well-adjusted people call themselves "losers," "nerds," "crazy cat ladies," etc. It's false modesty for the sake of humor. All this website seems to have done is co opt that attitude and focus on people who get kicks out of calling their slightly bad habits or small misfortunes "misery."

"A guy I met on Tinder wanted me to split the check, I'm so miserable!!! Hahaha."

"Boys I meet at the bar are all losers. My cat can be my boyfriend! I'm so miserable! Hahaha."

"I spend more time playing fantasy football than I do going to the gym. I'm so miserable! Hahaha."

"I spent Saturday night watching movies in bed. I'm so miserable! Hahaha."

"It turns out the girl I have a crush on has a boyfriend. I'm so miserable! Hahaha."

Etc.

It's kind of a kick in the balls to the millions of people out there who are actually miserable for legitimate reasons.

Right, basically by signing up for such a site...that person has declared to the world that they are a miserable loser, yes?

Yes, and only a 27-30-year-old woman can accomplish that.

That was what I expected, though, when I checked it out.

I could fit their description in ways, but I'm not interested in going out with someone who's just as miserable as I can be at times. I thought the idea of going out was to have fun, not to cry into a beer. That's what it sounds like to me, and it's off-putting. Maybe that could help other people, though - I'm just not sure that the people signing up would be non-judgmental with everyone.

Dating cheery, bubbly women with huge boobs that like a lot of sex sure grates on a guy after it becomes the norm, rather than the exception.

So sure, I would not mind trying a roll n the hay with a blubbering emotional wreck who is total underachiever. Because usually they turn out to be far more interesting than the happy go lucky types. Anyone can get a boob job, but the ones that are truly worthy of my time have ninety miles of rough road behind them and street smarts all the live long day.

There is a lot of gold in the gutter, you just have to have a strong enough backbone to reach down and grab it:)

Wonder if they have a Schadenfreude section

.

"If you laugh at terrorist attacks and cheer on the weather during natural disasters, high fiving those around you with reckless abandon as others look on in horror while news casts parade dead bodies in a montage onscreen, well then, you've found a place where singles share similar afflictions and are waiting to meet you"

That would be awful/awesome.....lol

What is wrong with that exactly? Too old for a 37 yr old?

Women over 30 - and closer to his own age - are too old for him, which is odd, and chauvinistic.

That was a rather rude assumption of yours, by the way.

That's a one-dimensional analysis of the situation. Lots of women prefer to date men much older than them. And if the man wishes to start a family then that's a lot harder if he's dating a woman that's well into her 30's.
