mrs rubble
Before you make any decisions, have you considered that at 38 your fertility window may already be closed? My window had closed by your age. If I were you, I'd get some hormone tests done to make sure that you wouldn't be throwing away a relationship to chase something which will be difficult/impossible to achieve. Good point. Miscarriage is also more likely the older you get.
Poe77
Women are having kids into their 40s and 50s now a days surely there cant be that many issues? I mean there was a time when it was considered taboo I know but I thought we would be past this by now.. I know some women do hit menopause earlier then others but I thought that was the exception I guess im just wondering how much of this is the old taboo and how much fact.. Women age 35 and older are medically referred to as "geriatric pregnancies". At 35, fertility drops and chances of complications with the pregnancy, including miscarriage, and/or birth defects increases. At 40, fertility drops even further and chances of maternal-fetal complications and/or birth defects increases further. A lot of women who conceive in their 40's and older do so with medical assistance, even if just hormone injections. Pregnancy and fetal development is complicated. We're just starting to learn how maternal hormones play roles in fetal development and the truth is that, as women age, what hormones their body can produce and in what quantity fluctuates. Just because we can doesn't mean we should.
