Should I try again?

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend is a very sociable guy, and has always enjoys meeting new people- recently he told me that he was going to invite a girl from Couchsurfing out with a group of friends, and asked me if it was ok- I said I wasn't comfortable with it, and it developed into an argument where he said I was just a jealous person with insecurities, and that if I trusted him, I would be fine with him meeting/talking to any girls because it wouldn't matter. I said I just didn't see the need to meet/talk to someone like that- and he maintains it's purely because he enjoys meeting new people. He didn't invite her out in the end and told me if I wanted, he would stop meeting people online like that, but I should be fine with him talking to/meeting girls when he's out with his friends... I am fine with this, but I don't see why he needs to keep contact with them by adding them on Facebook/liking their pics etc. which I've noticed him do after nights out with friends. He sees nothing wrong with it, and says it's just how he uses social media, and thinks I'm overreacting and being insecure and jealous. We broke up because of this, I don't know if I was overreacting for something minor as meeting a girl within a group of friends, or if his behaviour was really a cause for concern. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Aside from this, everything else is really great in our relationship, and I have never met anyone before that I clicked with so well and have such great chemistry with- and I'm sad to lose this.

I just feel awful about it, I know he does really want to be with me and just thinks what he is doing has no bearing on our relationship. He told me he will delete online accounts but says I need to trust him when he's out with friends. I'm not sure whether to compromise and try again with him or not.

Any advice?

I can understand your feelings completely.

Personally I think NO ONE has the right to tell you what you should or shouldn't be feeling.

If you love him and you trust him and want to be with him then apologise and try and work through this together.

If it was me I would ask why if he is in a committed relationship with me is he meeting new women online and then arranging to meet them in real life... even if it is just socially as friends? Would he like it if you were talking to random men online and then meeting them with "friends" ??

However if I truly loved him and could imagine the rest of my life with him I definitely would try and have a conversation about it all and to find a way for both of us to maintain a happy and healthy relationship.

Stay strong, and I really hope it all works out for you
