Newcitygirl
I moved 45 days ago for a really great job opportunity. I love the job itself. I have noticed I have cried some point everyday. I've been more tired than usual. I know I am homesick. This is my first time away from hometown and family. I have one girl I know that isn't particularly reliable. I know a guy I went to high school. He has helped some, but only so much hanging out he can do since he has a girlfriend. I started going to a church, but I work irregular hours so attending church every week will not always happen. I have joined a gym. Any tips to get over being homesick? I literally hate the city I am at the moment. I am naturally an introvert so initiating anything always takes a lot of energy out of me. I have felt like this area I have had to do a lot of initiating. In public I try to stay positive.
ja123
Sorry you're feeling homesick. Moving and starting a new job are two huge life stressors, so it's no wonder you've been crying and feeling tired. In your place, I'd close the curtains, stream a local radio station from your hometown and try to feel as though I were there. I'd cocoon and have some tea, lite a candle, mute the television, and maybe eat a tasty treat. Also, see if friends and family can come visit you!
RecentChange
What do you hate about the city you are in? Do you see your opinion of it changing? What's the long term plan? While being home sick is normal - hating your new city won't help! I have moved a number of times, and while I always missed my "home" (I still think it's one of the best cities in the world and it has pulled me back), I appreciated and enjoyed the other places I have lived. I have passed on job opportunities as I felt I would not like / fit in with the culture in the cities where the job was located.

It is also a college town so people are naturally more friendly. What I don't like about it is that there is a bigger female to male ratio. So dating will be hard. It just seems really hard to get into groups with people. I understand some degrees of cliques is healthy. But I should feel like I at least feel part of something. I found out I knew another girl and she said it was helpful that she moved downtown. I have a dog and cat so finding a reasonable place will be hard
