markraine
This was such a great book that I have to share it with everyone. First off, let me talk about myself a little bit. I'm 23 years old, spent 3 years in the Army, in the 101st Airborne. I've been playing sports and working out as long as I can remember. I made it to State Finals 3 out of 4 years in track when I was in high-school. I ran a year in college, as well as did a lot of freelance running, road races and stuff, and even ran 2 marathons. After getting out of the Army a year ago, I went back to school and work, stopped working out, put on weight, got pudgy, really didn't feel like myself, felt unmotivated and like my feet were always dragging, like I was always tired. I started a half-hearted workout program, but it didn't really get me far.....UNTIL I picked up this book while I was in Borders. Its called Sly Moves....written by Sylvester Stallone.....YES.....Rocky wrote a book. I'm skeptical about these health books like Body For Life and South Beach because they make the stuff seem so complicated and just generally not worth the trouble. Honestly though, this book amazed me, from the first page to the last. It is written very clearly, very straightforward, it gives a short bio on Stallone's life, but mostly focuses on what he did to get into shape, what he found that worked for him, why most of these diets didn't work for him, and it just has a TOTAL breakdown of various workouts for people at various levels, suggestions on maintaining motivation and such. He brings his wife in to present a breakdown of exercises for women to do as well. The whole book is filled with spirit and really helped motivate me, get me back to basics. At the time I weighed around 223 pounds, I wasn't obese or anything, but the beer belly and the love handles were in effect. It is now 3 months later and I am weighing in at a relatively svelte 195 pounds, slim waist and the abs are starting to show once again A lot of this was due to muscle memory, my body recovering its former shape, but this book has me believing that it would work for anyone. Perhaps not to such an extreme, but using the basic tips and philosophy, you WILL get into shape! It is so simple, so easy to follow, gives you step by step realistic directions, such a great thing that I wanted to share it with others. I know a lot of people are looking to get into shape or get into better shape, this is one of the few books I'd recommend. So many products and books out there that are really just BS, or overly complicated, this book cuts through that and gets you to the good parts, the stuff that will help you and get you going. Very good read and I would recommend it to anyone, but especially beginners and intermediate. Even someone like me who worked out for so long and did sports for so long still found many good things to take from this book If nothing else, just take a few minutes at the bookstore to flip through the book and check it out, I don't think you'll regret it! Good Luck y'all!
Blackfrost
I will check out this book you reccomend, next time i get to the bookstore I love fitness books, and hopefully I can pick up some additional knowledge from reading it For the past year, I have been an official devotee / cultist of the Body for Life method. See the body in the pic. guess who. Bill Phillips, the author of body for life has absolutely transformed me with his program, and I am damn proud of the amount of work it took to achieve this goal (though I'm still not happy with my body yet......must see all eight abs hahahahaha) I have never had as much success with acheiving the results I have attained, but through his program. Author markraine
Sly does give his two cents about the Body of Life program for the book. He says it a very good program for those who choose to follow it, but some of the goals are not overly realistic. According to the program, he said its supposed to take like 16 weeks to get your AFTER body.........but with state of the art training, supplements and multiple personal trainers, it took Sly like 3 or 4 years to get into the shape that the book supposedly claims you can achieve, that was around the time he did Rocky III. Check out the shape he was in, its insane =P He said he is good friends with Bill Phillips, but he tries to simplify the system even more, break it down a little better. Blackfrost
Yes, I definetly did not achieve this body in one challenge hahaha I wish!!! I'm on Challenge 3 week 9 right now, and know that it will probably take me another full 12 weeks after that, to get down to the definition that I'm striving for. The best part of this has been - if you had seen my before picture - you'd do a double take hahaha. Now, if I can just keep the lecherous co-worker women out of my office so I can actually work, instead of answer workout questions, I'd be set. I'm not available for 2 hour rentals, unless you get the permission of my wife first hahahahaha
