Lilyana76
I was just wondering if any other parents have a child diagnosed with JIA or JRA? My four year old was diagnosed last May with Systemic JIA. Since then we have started courses of Enbrel and Methotrexate injections every week. I see quite an improvement in my son, as before his treatments he could hardly walk. Right now there is no specialist in my area to see my little guy so I have to travel 8 hours once a month to see a specialist in another state for his treatment. I was just curious to see if any others were on here and maybe we could have a thread for support in dealing with this condition in our littles FYI: for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about its Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, or Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. It's an auto immune disorder in children, where their joints are attacked. It's way different than arthritis in an aging adult.
Author Lilyana76
Winter really sucks, not only because the cold weather effects his joints more, but any cold can really make matters worse. My son takes 2 injections weekly, methotrexate and enbrel. Both of these medications lower his immune system dramatically. Any illness can put him in the hospital for an extended amount of time. On a good note, they finally signed a Pediatric Rheumatologist doctor to a contract here in the city I live in... so no more 4 hour trips to another hospital! WOOOHOOO.
