Naive
So I got called for an interview and I got the job but now I am not sure if I want it. The pay is excellent and the benefits are great. I would get medical and dental, as well as a free membership to Bally Total Fitness and 401K BUT it has nothing to do with the law field I love law and everything that goes with it. My current job pays well but I have no benefits or anything. My boss is great (other than he does not pay me on time) and he helps me out a lot. I have my own office and I get along with the people here. I love all the responsibility that I have here and I feel useful. I need more money though. What do I do? Over there I will just be one more to the hundreds of employees that they have, here everything revolves around me.
tiki
Okay. Why did you apply? How'd you find out about the job? Will they have internet access? Why move? But if you like it, do move. You're still in school for your attorney crap, so it's not like you're completely out of the ballpark.

I need more money but at this moment I do not know what's more important, money or doing what you like....... I would not be happy in that company because it's a position for collection agent and it's not a solo company, there are hundreds of people there. Benifits are MARVELOUS but I will not feel useful like I do here. Here it's one on one with the attorney. I know that after I am out of school I will have nothing to complain about BUT it would look great if I have all this experience since I was 19 rather than working in something else and then becoming an attorney, get me? And No Internet Access!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quankanne
are you doing okay without the medical benefits, or is there anything in your family history (diabetes, high blood pressure, anemia) that needs to be tended to now while you're young to "head it of at the pass," so to speak? however, if you're doing all right in that sense, my suggestion is to stay in the job that you enjoy doing, even though you might not have the greatest of perks. Why? because ideally, a job should bring you a certain amount of happiness, not stress or dislike. I don't make a whole lot of money working for the church, but we've got a generous vacation schedule and a wonderful, wonderful sense of family-oriented ethics: anytime I've needed to take time off to deal with family matters, my boss will tell me that the job isn't important, but my family is, and that came in handy when DH and I lost our moms six months apart, because neither one was living close by at the time. curiousnycgirl
I agree - you should probably stay where you are for several reasons. Firstly it is in your chosen field - experience in law will serve you well after you graduate. Secondly you enjoy it - trust me IT IS NOT all about the money!!! Third - you are learning that you would probably be happier in a smaller environment - that too is important to know about yourself - GOOD FOR YOU Finally it just doesn't sound like this new opportunity is the right one. Having said all that - nothing says you cannot keep looking. Who knows someone may come along and offer the whole package!
HokeyReligions
Originally posted by ~Naive~ Thanks quankanne, thanks quankanne, thanks quankanne, thanks quankanne No but really, thank you. Buwhahaha! Buwhahaha! Buwhahaha! Buwhahaha! :lmao: :lmao: Stick with the job you like. I've had higher paying jobs that I absolutly hated, and lower paying jobs that I wish I could get back! Job satisfaction is worth more than salary sometimes, and as you progress in your career the job you have now will have a bigger payoff later. Can you take out your own health insurance? It's expensive -- I've been looking into that as I have not had benefits since 2003 and they ARE important, but my health risks are lower when I enjoy my job. My last job paid better but I was so stressed from it that I had chest pains, constant headaches, bodily-function-interruptus, and a whole host of other 'just don't feel good' health problems. The job before I adored and was healthier and happier and the folks I worked with were more than helpful with the problems I had with my mother's health.
Zephyr45
Sounds like the money is tight at your current little company, but have you thought about discussing this with your boss? Seems like you have a good enough relationship that if you approached him openly and explained the situation he would at least be fair enough to you to give you some sort of response - more pay, benefits, or perhaps just that he simply can't give you anything more at this time. orta
A lot of people keep trying to get into law, and a lot of people find themselves with student loans to pay off the rest of their lives, and no jobs to speak of. It might be worth while to look into something different. I don't know your entire situation. Consider things carefully. Make lists, talk to family and friends, and take the time to reflect on your situation if possible. If you are happy where you are, then stay put. If you must leave to try something new, hopefully you will have the option of going back to your old job.
