POF and accepting messages from upgraded users?

Another pet peeve of mine with the POF site is when you write up a nice email to someone, hit the send button and only THEN...you may get a message that says, "Member only receives messages from upgraded users" even though THEY are not upgraded users themselves.

 

I am now starting to think POF is going the way of Facebook's methods and making changes without letting people know.

 

Recently,I've noticed some people adding in their profile, "I'm not an upgraded user, so feel free to message me."

 

Which kind of implies that POF MAY be defaulting peoples' profiles to that of upgraded users...possibly randomly....unbeknownst to them.

 

Thoughts on that?

... starting? As long as I've been aware, POF have always made changes without letting people know. Being able to hide your profile kept yo-yoing between a paid and a free feature a while back. They took away username search not long ago. The link to the forums is still AWOL since several years ago. They have never, ever told their users about changes.

 

This "feature" is not new at all, it's been around for ages. It's a filter you can set "only receive messages from upgraded users". You do not have to be upgraded yourself, to set this filter. It is not set by default.

 

In my opinion you would have to have rocks in your head to use this silly "feature" but hey, some people have rocks in their head.

Yeah, but I think it's recently been DEFAULTING to "Upgraded users can only message you" because I've seen some women say, "I'm not an upgraded user, so you CAN email me."

 

Just a theory though based on that.

Whether they have the filter set or not has absolutely nothing to do with whether THEY are upgraded or not. So writing this sentence makes no sense at all, whichever way you look at it. It just shows that this person doesn't know what they are talking about.
