preraph
Book a different hotel far away from the official one until you're ready to go there. I am all for doing that. Once I was given a roommate I didn't know on a regional business meeting. I was not comfortable with it, so I covertly booked myself another room in the same hotel and just pretended to stay in the assigned room. She had told me she slept like a log.
Author d0nnivain
OK . . . the wedding of the century is next week. I'm in a terrible frame of mind. DH is saying we should bail on most of it. Thank heavens. Wish me well.

basil67
I would imagine there's lots of aircon. Just gotta find somewhere nice where they can't find you. Do they have a resort pool where you're staying?
Author d0nnivain
I am looking forward to the resort pool & spending some time out there. I suspect I'll get a lot of solitude from the family there because they aren't fond of sun.

Enjoy your time away.
BaileyB
Alcohol. Whenever I have to do something like this, I joke that I will only make it through the event if I have a glass of wine in my hand. Best wishes.

Author d0nnivain
I survived. No duct tape required. It was kind of sad. Immediately after the vows the couple rushed to the casino floor to gamble & have a cigarette. Watching the bride drink a long neck was just so . . . .inelegant. I sat at the "reception" in the hotel buffet open to the public looking at the happy couple -- who were genuinely happy -- and I wanted to cry as I could only focus on the paper placemat in front of the bride. It bore no resemblance to a wedding -- the officiant told bad jokes, there was no toast, no first dance, nothing elegant (except the bride's dress which looked lovely) & the whole thing only lasted about an hour. I overheard many people in the buffet make disparaging comments about the couple & I stuck up for them. Most of the snide commenters apologized to me. Of course there was drama over who had to pay for certain guests' dinner. The couple had put the cost in the invite & on the RSVP card so it certainly wasn't a surprise. The groom's kids were well behaved but bored. Can't say I blame them. But you know what? This wedding with all it's "flaws" (IMO) made the couple happy & they loved their wedding so who cares if I thought it was awful? All in all I decided Las Vegas is not my kind of town.
