sumboy96
My fiancee is originally from Lebanon and goes back to visit his mother, father, and sister every summer for two months. I have stayed behind and waited for him to get back for two summers already. This time I was supposed to go with him but the money we saved up had to be used last minute for our car. I will not be able to go this time. This Summer will be better than the last because last year I did not have a job While he was gone. The year before that was horrible because it was the first Summer without him. I just need advice on how to keep my mind busy and make the time go by faster. He said that every year should get easier, But it still sucks.
Telemachus
You're engaged to be married. This summer may not matter all that much, but if he intends to keep doing this until all of his immediate family members have passed on, then you'll spend your entire married life this way. I'm not saying that the two-month separation sucks. You did. Do you really want to have 2 of every 12 months suck for the rest of your life, 'til death do you part'? That's 17% of your life. The simplest ways to keep your mind busy are to work and to read. As to how to make the time go by faster, two months will always be two months. If your work isn't demanding enough, find another job. I've never had a job at which I just sat with nothing to do. You should be able to keep yourself busy at all times, even when no one is telling you what to do. Regarding reading, if you're reading books that don't keep you mind occupied, read other books. Write one. Write a couple. It takes me about five months to write a novel-length work of fiction, during evenings and weekends. You might be able to write one over the course of two summers. Take a class. Learn new languages. It takes me about a decade to master each new language I've learned. The possibilities are endless. It's impossible to think of anything else while trying to carry on an intelligent, eventually witty, conversation in a language you barely know. It requires total concentration.
