What the hell am i doing?

Recommended Posts

Im here because i ran out of ideas and im not sure about anything anymore. Im 24 years old, i did average in high school, average in college, finally really gotten over a relationship that ended two years ago (still think about it sometimes) and im broke and unemployed. Things were okay for a while, I got out some more, talked to some great girls started the gym, but yet I am in a rut once again.

Im hoping that this isnt how most 20 year olds feel because it sucks. The thing is im not even a lazy guy, i always thought I was but wherever i am i work very hard and honest, I do my best and I try.

I dont understand that now when i can finally live a bit im so emotionally down and tired. My father doesnt do drugs and alcohol anymore, I dont pin about my old girl anymore. So I have no idea whats my problem.

I dont want this life, I hate seeing my mother having to struggle financially, the things she did for me she deserves the world and im just here struggling. I sent out a few resumes, will have to look harder because I hate being home. I go to sleep like 4 in the morning and wake up 1 pm. I cant even eat right or exercise, like the willingness to do things is gone and im not sure where to find it.

What more do I need to change my life, I get so bombarded i truly dont know where to start. I feel unhappy all the time and its killing me.

I dont want to make this a long thread I just want to know if you guys ever been in that spot and how did you get out.

Oh btw, i signed up in the police academy a few days ago. So right now all my eggs are in that basket.

Sorry you're struggling. Truthfully, you are young to have to struggle and work this hard. So it's not like you're behind the curve or anything. I don't know where you're from, but if you're in the US, contact your local employment commission. They, to varying degrees of usefulness, all have some work programs and job listings. You being young and able-bodied can probably do just about any physical labor and learn a new craft in construction or whatever.

Go to an industrial area of town, where there's lots of warehouses, and go in each one, ask to speak to the warehouse manager or at least fill out an application. Put you are open to doing warehouse work or whatever they have for you. You really don't need work history for this type job, and it CAN lead somewhere, especially if it's a good growing local company and not a huge corporate thing. The only thing that could hold you back here and anywhere is a criminal record.

Be dependable and see if they don't start promoting you. If there's no movement in a year, well, go somewhere else and leave on good terms and now you have a work record and some experience. Good thing about these jobs is you don't have to dress up and have good clothes except for dressing as nice as you can for the interview but for warehouse work, a nice ironed shirt and some dark not worn out jeans and a belt will suffice even for the interview.

There are a lot of hidden jobs you never hear about that can turn into something. Good luck.

I think you are depressed. My first suggestion would be to go to a doctor and get on an anti-depressant to get over this time in your life. I know that a lot of people don't like taking medicines; however, you need help and the medication might just work for you. If you do not have health insurance, go to the local community health clinic. And, if you can, see a therapist or find someone to talk to about your fears and concerns.

With respect to employment, I always had luck going to a local temp agency, such as Manpower, when I was your age. I would take whatever job was offered to me. Sometimes the temporary jobs lead to permanent jobs.

Change your perspective. It really makes a difference how you look at life. Look at the positives in your life and be grateful for what you have . . . such as a roof over your head, people who love you. Stay off social media as it creates such a false impression of how life should be.

Best of luck to you!!!

What you need to do to change your life is take action. You need a direction & purpose. You don't seem to have either.

You say you sent out a few resumes. Send out more. When I was looking for work I sent out dozens of resumes per day. Finding a job is your current job. You need to be on every job site out there EVERY DAY. Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, Snagajob, usajobs.gov, any local sites that serve your area. Get to it. You need to send out 10-20 resumes every day.

You need to be going to job fairs at least once per week.

Reach out for the placement office at your college; see where they can point you.

Take old friends who have jobs out to breakfast or lunch. See if they can point you some where.

Make an appointment with a temp agency.

Sending out a "few" resumes won't cut it in the market if you were only an average student.

Whatever your undergraduate major / preferred field of study you need to be attending industry events as often as funds will allow. Many have free admission for recent grads or the unemployed.

If you are willing to go to the police academy are you also willing to serve in the military? That will get you a career, additional training, a place to live, food & a purpose. If you really want a police career military service will enhance your chances of getting into the academy because you will get a veteran's preference.

Once you become employed & have an income many of your other issues will fade because you will have energy & drive again.

Get yourself into a proper sleep pattern, this is not healthy. Even if you got a job tomorrow you will be so whacked you will not be any good to anyone.

Force yourself to eat at proper meal times and forget snacking and filling yourself up with garbage. If you eat and sleep well you will feel 100x better.

Then add in some exercise -go to the gym but if you cannot afford it, go walking/running in your district, the fresh air will do you the power of good.

Fix your sleeping pattern: if you an't fall asleep - do the following: don't sleep AT ALL one night, then you'd be tired and go to bed early like 10 pm or so. Set your alarm at 6 am. Repeat until you get to your new normal.

Get a recruiter that will help you with resumes and keep you organized.

Go to therapy if you can.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Well to start with i went out all day, dropped out like 78 resumes, and i had an interview with the police academy. I passed the medical and everything still have a few more things to do. Atleast im in the system so im thankful.

Sleep wise , yesterday i worked myself out a bid, been a while i exercised but i forced myself, i took a good shower and fell asleep by 1 am. compared to other nights thats really good. I got up early and had a good day.

Still need a job so i'll still continue looking, im good with people so once i put myself out there im sure something will turn up.

I've made alot of mistakes and depression did hold me back from many things. At the end of the day i need to make that change because no one else will. I always put too much on my plate and that just complicates things.

This year I just want to get back in shape, get active and fit again and get a good job. police officer or otherwise and i'll think about starting something at school. I havent been to any school after college and thats been since 2014. So im feeling positive about it.

Only thing im struggling with is eating, i need to eat more.

Just to give you guys who've been so helpful an update . I got a job. Its labour work but I don't mind. Thankful for it. Better yet I'll be getting a car soon. I had some money from my prior job. Worked out a deal with a dealership so I can make monthly payments as well. So things are looking up. Thanks again for your support.
