Your Cousin, Or Me?

Recommended Posts

Recently, my husband and I moved up to Indiana with his family to start anew. Since being up here, my husband has had a dramatic change in personality. I believe it's because of his cousin, who like to drink, do drugs, has no job, and has a very wish washy temperament.

It seems when his cousin gets in one of his "moods" and flips out because something isn't going right, my husband pushes to please his cousin more, even if that means going against me. Today, his cousin started screaming and slammed the front door because we were leaving to bring me to work at 3 instead of 2:30. My husband and forced me out the door as soon as possible and I ended up going into work 20 minutes early and nothing to do. I got vocal and upset about how it always ends up that we do whatever his cousin wants and it's never fair to me. That turned into us fighting and screaming and now he's giving me the cold shoulder

Is it wrong that I'm upset about this? It feels like his cousin has more pull on us than he should. And if I ever acted like his cousin, I'm shamed and told I'm stupid for reacting that way. I get my husband is upset for me freaking out on him while I'm trying to keep the peace, but why do I have to be the puppet?

Talk to your husband when the cousin isn't around. Calmly tell your husband what you have observed & how it makes you feel. Get your husband to pick you & your marriage over the cousin.

For now, keep your eyes & ears open. The cousin is trouble.
