My sister's constantly posting social media photos of her baby!

Excuse me for having an involuntary response of annoyance when everytime I click on facebook or Instagram the first thing I see this baby. I'd like to think that my not saying anything to my sister is compassionate. As if my instinct feelings make me innately 'bad' or something. Come on.

I guess the way you refer to your niece or nephew as "this baby" almost sounds rather cold considering this is your family. I agree with amaysngrace that it would seem that their birth would be a source of joy in your life.

When my nephew was born, seeing pictures of him made me smile. My heart bursts with love for that child. He loves his auntie.

Sibling rivalry seems to be an undertone.

I'm nuts about my nephews as well. I can't get enough pictures and info about them and now that one is married with a baby I'm nuts over my little grand nephew. Just found out on Mother's Day that another baby is on their way.

Look, I just get annoyed that EVERY time I open my Instagram all I see is this kid's face. I feel like he should have his own app. Is it so awful that after 8 months I am sick of this happening every day several times a day? I don't think so. And no, I would never be angry toward my sister about it. I get it on an intellectual level, but on a personal level I am getting pretty annoyed by it all. I would feel the same if it were anyone else doing it, but I've never seen someone be so extreme about it out of my whole friends list as she is. I've unfollowed her on facebook, but I don't want to remove her from my Instagram because she might get upset, so I'm still trying to figure that one out.

The mods can feel free to close this thread now. I think I've gotten all the help on this thread I can stomach.

Posting on an open forum is opening yourself up to opposing views.

I don't understand why you're throwing tantrums.

Since you're extremely annoyed by your sister posting about "this kid", maybe it's time to have a discussion with her. Be warned that she may not take your feelings very well.

I'm childfree but I am aware that parents are in love with their children in most cases....especially when they are very young.

Being an auntie is amazing isn't it? We get all the fun parts of having a child in our lives without all the responsibility.

We also get to spoil our nieces and nephews.

How do you feel about the baby when you see him in person?

I'm not on Instagram, but as far as FB goes: what do you expect? It's memes and political stuff and vacation pictures and a shot of what someone is eating for dinner.

It's tough for me to see baby pictures ranking below the rest of that stuff.

Probably like what else could he possibly do that I haven't already seen a hundred times.

Probably like her sister expects everyone to give the baby center spotlight.

I don't have children but when a new mother sends me pictures of the baby or talks about the baby I admire her. I think it's adorable and if the baby is present it brightens up my day.

I admire her, too, and enjoy the photos. What we're talking about is something else. There are moms who post interesting and varied things about their kids on FB that I enjoy.

I don't post photos of kids for other reasons, one of them being I want them to be able to choose which photos of themselves are floating around on the internet for folks to see when they're mature enough to do so, in other words, respecting their privacy. This is not a Christmas Card list these photos go out to. They are out there for everyone in the world to see forever. Think ahead, People! Yes, "everyone's doing it." But, not everyone is. I know some others who are being cautious, too.

Usually when a baby is present they automatically get the center spotlight. Why not, they are so cute and don't talk so everybody loves them. Well, most people.

It's not the baby photos. It's the way they're presented, the multitude, the invasion of privacy for the child. Know there are people who won't get that but there are folks who value a certain amount of family privacy, dignity, etc etc,and also grace which includes not over the top bragging. Hard to explain, some "get it" some don't.

It's kind of an issue of manners, internet etiquette.

A few baby photos now and then, fine. Over the top=not classy.
