Classical Violin = Gay?

I have a simple question...

Do women think that men who play classical violin are gay?

I am being completely serious, and I do not want to offend anybody by this post.

I play the violin, and my brother plays the cello. We perform at weddings on a monthly basis and have for about 9 years. All I can say is that it seems like a turn off for girls, and I don't know why.

I'm afraid to mention it during conversation because I for one don't want to brag, and two it just seems like I've received little to no "brownie points" for playing violin.

I must add that I never started playing the violin for the sole purpose of scoring dates. I wanted to learn how to play, and I have been told that a happy side effects of being a musician is that lots of women are attracted to men like that.

Now I will say that me and my brother have performed at many elderly women's meetings, and they seem to appreciate our abilities.

Help

i dont know what girls or people are saying this.....but there is nothing gay about having a proficiency and an appreciation with and for a musical instrument .....and it is certainly true that respect and admiration is often to be had by women for men who have passion for music.....

as far as musicians goes have dated a few and i would much much rather date a man who played the violin or cello, piano or guitar than a man who played in a thrash metal band....men who play music because they love it....are passionate for the love of music....are likely to be as passionate in other areas of life and love...so yes attractive to the opposite sex.........deb

I dont think do. Playing an instrument does not infer sexual preference.

No, I would actually be intrigued to learn that about a man I had an interest in. I like it when men have musical ability and/or are passionate about something in their lives. I would not assume that meant you were homosexual.

My father used to play the piano for my mom, and I actually think it would be romantic for a man to serenade a woman with his violin.

Maybe just stop trying to pick up women when you perform. It might be the setting.

/..snip/ a happy side effects of being a musician is that lots of women are attracted to men like that.

I used to think like that until I started playing the banjo.

Oh wait, you said being a musician... ..lol..

I suggest you broaden your music genre and learn to play some country, or learn to play some pop songs. Don't limit yourself to "classical". It's not that they think you are gay, it's the fact "classical music" is not their taste and they find it boring. That's why they are turned off.

Maybe they think your brother is your boyfriend.

Go watch "Master and Commander" again and see how gay the violin and cello are. Russell Crowe is not gay. Spice things up with some Zydeco, and the girls will be eating out of your hand.

If you learn anything in life, its that the things you enjoy should never be thought of in the same vane as whether or not it's going to make you more or less appealing to women...

That's a road to nowhere...

Not sure who has been telling you that but sounds to me like you're in the wrong crowd friend. Playing an instrument does NOT make you gay. Man I really do hate people sometimes.

Well that's all very nice to know.

People ask a lot if my brother and I are twins, which we are not, but I always figured that it would be easy to tell that we were brothers and not boyfriends.

I have been offered to play in a country music band, so I might start considering it...

As far as the setting goes, most of the time when girls come to weddings they bring a date, or some friends. Normally we perform the ceremony, and then leave, so I guess I'm not putting myself in a good position in the first place.

The fact that they even *assume* that you're gay for that is pretty unbelievable. I see a lot of feminine guys in life but that doesn't necessarily mean they like having sex with guys, you know?

Uhhh...no. That's completely absurd! I was a music major in college so perhaps I know more classical musicians personally than the average person, but...I definitely do not associate violinists with homosexuality, or with heterosexuality for that matter. It's completely neutral in my mind. Personally I would find it attractive - I like it when my partner has a passion for something artistic and expressive, and it would mean we could go to the symphony together.
