I'm not lazy, but I find it much better to buy a book that someone recommends me than buying a book where I have no clue if it's good or not. Not all the books on Amazon have customer reviews.

I'm trying to remember the ones I've heard were very good LOL

Hahaha. :p

But seriously, I suggest you check out 'improve memory' at Amazon or your favourite bookstore's online database or your local library and look through some of the books to see which would appeal to you.

Of course I can search, I also have some books at home, but I would like to hear first hand experiences.

I have a terrible memory too. I've heard that stress causes destruction of memory cells. I know it's probably not helpful but maybe if you can learn to reduce stress you can improve your memory.

Do you think meditation...not in the ooooommmm sense...but in the sense of learning to clear and quiet your mind.... improves memory?

Anyone tried ginkgo biloba?

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=50765

The article also talks about how vitamins, antioxidants and fruits and veggies are good for preserving memory.

"Blueberries and blackberries are at the top of the list of brain-boosting foods because they are exceptionally rich in chemicals called anthocyanins, which are among the most potent antioxidants."

I think you have some fundamental problems with your approach to improving your memory.

Firstly, it sounds as though you are a product of the internet generation, the 'I want the secret now' generation. I am the same, I think Google is the answer to life, ANYTHING I want to know is right at my finger tips. But is this effective? If anything, it has tought us that we don't need to know things, they are already available, we just need to know how to SEARCH for them. I think this brings big behaviour problems (and am personally dealing with these now.)

The trick is, there is no secret to a good memory. Everything that we and professionals can suggest comes at the expense of practice and determination. The advice in books give you PRACTICES that you can do to improve your memory. You will not read a book and instantly have a better memory. These things take time and practice, and most importantly, determination.

I personally know of, and have had positive success with many cognitive enhancing drugs. Perhaps you are a heavy beliver in the D.A.R.E slogan 'Drugs are Bad'? I don't think all pills are bad. Echanacia comes in a pill. Vitamin C comes in a pill. Asprin comes in a pill. Why do you automatically disregard pills as having an inability to bring life enhancing effects? Anyway, if you do change your mind, http://www.erowid.org/smarts/smarts.shtml is a good place to start. You have A LOT to read and learn if you decide to go this option, however I have done so and have had personal success in my University Degrees with them.

What has worked best for me is a combination of cognitive enhancing practices. Aniracetam, Choline and Lecithin have been my pills of choice. Crossword puzzles, word games such as Scrabble and other activities have enhanced my recall ability. Other than that, learning techniques such as flash cards, repetitive writing, rewriting (reading a passage and rewriting it in your own words) have helped me.

Some people are born with the ability to read something once and never touch that book again. I have envied these people in the past but realise everyone has their own benefits and abilities. These specific abilities are not within me naturally, however I am starting to gain the practical experience necessairy to make my memory better.

Good Luck,

CA :)

I had a great technique, but I forgot it...

You're almost as useful as I am

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Loony, I am the same and I know exactly what you're talking about. I remember details from the past, but it's hard for me to remember to do something (buy, call, take a pill at a certain time, return a book to the library, etc.)

My mom used to call me on the phone to remind me that I have to take my antibiotic and she would say to me: "I'll wait on the phone while you take it, cuz I know that you will forget about it as soon as you hang up."

I think we were born defective, Loony. :D But look at it from the bright side:

1. It makes our lives easier as we do only half of the things we're supposed to do (50% we forget and by the time we remember to do them they are out-of-date and usually we realize that we didn't even have to do them; that's why we forgot them, because they were not important); :bunny:

2. It's a great excuse when you "forget" to do what you dislike; ;)

3. Thanks to our talent we are never too busy; :D

4. We can brag that we are artistic types because we are in the clouds.
