my doctor has agreed to help me build a case to present to my insurance company for a breast reduction. I'm lined up for a mammogram (to rule out any cancer/pre-cancer issues) as well as a bone density test (spinal curvature due to gravitational pull of heavy breast tissue), but all-in-all, he seems to think I'm a good candidate because even if I did lose the weight I need to lose, I'm still proportionally top-heavy.

I've been researching the issue off and on, and have a college friend to turn to when it comes to knowing what to ask and look for. My problem is that I really, really want nice looking breasts when all is said and done, not just carved down remainders of what I once possessed.

the obvious answer to showing the plastic surgeon examples of the breasts I hope to come out with is to grab a couple of skin magazines and find the ones I'd like to have on me. I've looked through those magazines before, but unfortunately, about 99.8 percent of the models have had implants, so their chi-chis really don't look or fall naturally, which is what I'm aiming for, and the smaller the better, like a B-cup.

any suggested places to research?

Some doctors will have a catalog of breast implants/reductions that they have done -- Before and After pictures, maybe your doctor will have something on file? Of course, your doctor might also want to take photos of your breasts before and after for others to see!

Actually when I was at the cancer center a year or so ago they had photos of reconstructive surgeries and reductions for women who were battling breast cancer to look at supposedly to help us adjust to upcoming changes. The photos are not airbrushed or enhanced so we can see the real thing. They also have some very realistic 'falsies' in various shapes and sizes for us to review. Some of the more elaborate surgeons may have imagining software where they can take a photo of you and show what the different sizes/shapes will look like on you -- like some hair places can take your face and then put different cuts and colors of hair on. (we've all turned into paper dolls!)

thanks for the site, SG -- I've scanned through the photos and found some good possibilities for my frame/shape in the B-to-C section! I'll go back a little later and check out their forum a little better, it looks like a good place for information.

the GF who had her BR done a couple of years back mentioned having to pose for pictures before and after, so I kind of expected that, but I wasn't sure if the doc's office let you look through their "work" -- my GP said that he's sent several women to this particular plastic surgeon, with excellent results (the guy works with diabetics, which is a major concern here ...)

hmmm ... wonder if I could get them to magically grow out and lighten my hair some, too, since it's all visual enhancement

:p:p:laugh::laugh:

thanks for the quick responses, ladies!

I promise to do so -- I'd found a BR forum long ago, when I first started looking into this, but until you provided the link above, I never would have thought about looking at an augmentation site for information! But, when I think about it, it makes sense because there are enough similarities (precautions, healing process, etc) between the two procedures to warrant a closer look.

told DH about the site, and how I'd found a good "reference" photo of the breasts I'd like to have -- the best part is that (minus my fat), the woman with the implants has a very similar frame to mine, so I can definitely imagine how I could look someday.

again, thanks for providing such a great link, SG!

Ooooh! Just in time! I've got my consult for the same thing scheduled for next month. I can't wait. Although I've got to say, I don't really care what they look like, so long as they're verging on normal and more portable!

:D:D:D

I know what you mean! I've told my husband that they've already served their purpose (snagging him), so I plan to spend this second half of my life living more comfortably. Best part about it is that I won't have to lug around heavy boobs anymore, plus I won't have problems breathing at night when I sleep (weight crushes down, and I can't breathe).

go to the site that Star Gazer recommended, and look at some of the before & after shots of the women who have had implants. It's amazing how some of them look like they were born with beautiful breasts, and not had implants put in. I think a lot of it has to do with how nicely formed these women were before surgery, though ... and I'm wondering if a PS can go from larger to smaller and make them look relatively nice. Still, as you say, as long as they verge on normal ...

best of luck with getting insurance approval, New Wife, and let me know how it goes. I've been told that the more you build up your case (i.e. complain about and document problems) the better the chance they'll qualify you. Told the girlfriend from college that if I get a "no" from the VA, I plan on presenting one of my stretched out bras and a couple of four- or five-pound melons to whoever makes those decisions and having them wear them for a couple of hours to get a better idea of what women have to suffer through when they are large-breasted and don't have the strength to support them anymore ...

I'll let you know. I'm seeing my general practicioner, as well as a physical therapist, who's more or less stated that there's nothing she can do to reduce the curvature already caused in my spine and neck due to these puppies until the surgery is done. It's basically just attempts to reduce some pain.
