SammySammy
I read every day. It has always been my favorite pastime. I have hundreds of books of various genres. I'm interested in ... everything. Except science fiction. I have over 100 self-help or business books alone. From classics like Think and Grow Rich and How To Win Friends and Influence People to more modern classics like Rich Dad, Poor Dad and E-Myth. My goal is to reread all of those - more than 100 titles - before January. It'll be a challenge, but I'm sure I can do it. Lots of great stuff in that collection that I'm interested in reading again. Gaining some new insights.
knockout33
I read a lot. I have 5 books at home, three I ordered from Amazan and two bought from the book store. Sometimes, I still borrow from the library also. Its like my favourite things to do before anything else, It's good for the brain I heard, and I notice I learn more by reading. Its so awesome. Els
Wanted to add to my post - I see that computers/smart phones/internet gets a really bad rap here, but it really depends on how you use it. If you use the internet to mostly read about Justin Bieber's latest fling or Selena Gomez's hot new boobs - yeah, it's probably a waste of time. But there are ways in which the internet can truly be used to learn, too. For instance, possibly the best source of free knowledge on the entirety of the planet - Wikipedia - is categorized as an online website. While it has drawbacks (such as potential editor bias), it is much more up-to-date and covers a much greater range of topics than any encyclopedia, and you can follow through on the citations for deeper reading. If I had a kid, I would probably give them a smartphone at a young age - but it would probably be locked to calls, a few educational games, and the Wikipedia app. They don't get to install new stuff.
Author ZayKayWill
I've been trying to not go online before work nor after work recently and just wake up reading a book for an hour over coffee and an hour when I get home - prob two books a month or so. It gives you a lot, I have been a paid writer all my life and I put it down to reading a lot when I was a kid, rather than schooling or university. For whatever reason I wasn't able to learn much from lectures, interactive classes or from tv, but if a teacher sent me home with a book I was always fine. Guess just different learning styles. You're a paid writer?

stixx
I read all the time. As much as you ppl want to cringe at any of my posts(about sex-or whatever)... My Bible is %100 always on my end-table in the living room and next to my bed on the table. No,,,,I am not Bible nut, but I am religious and I do drop to my knees and pray often. I also keep a MP3 player and CD player next to my bed..Music and The Divine Mercy Chaplet. Yes....I listen to Led Zep, 2pac, or whatever,,,but I do not do drugs and I believe in family and my Lord. I dont ask for forgiveness like many. I was forgiven th moment after I may have done something wrong. I read passage and ask for understanding and to have a good day. At times I may not be on my best behavior in general, but when I meditate and read passage I know Its ok. Make sense? Edited August 23, 2017 by stixx
GemmaUK
Elswyth's post reminded me of when I was a kid. We had a big set of 12 encyclopedias and I think my parents noticed how often my face was stuffed inside one of them - one year for Christmas (I think I was about 9) they got the biggest encyclopedia for me with a white shiny cover and it was much more updated than the older ones we had. I read that thing front to back, back to front and upside down! Lol! I love books and the feel of them but I do also love my e-reader as now I can read in pure bliss with candle light only in the room, in the background as I need nothing to light the page with. The saddest bit is Netflix has some crackling log fires (yes really! Lol!) which also light the room a little and are perfect for a quiet read in the winter if you don't have a fire. You can change the size of the text too with some e-readers and get some eye exercises out of it. My eyesight has improved since getting the e-reader but admittedly I have also been using the Bates Method for improving/retaining good eyesight for a little while now. I also listen to plays and audiobooks a lot on the radio or streamed. With a book though you can just get totally lost in it - I don't find listening to a story quite the same.
jigwig
I'm a proud page turner myself. New here got caught in the death spiral of a relationship gone bad forum. I felt like I was listening to my teenage children pontificate over oral sex not really being Sex. Whew. So relieved to find this thread.
preraph
I read all day every day as part of my work, plus internet stuff, but since I have to read so much, I rarely read a leisurely book anymore. I've only read one this year, I think. I used to inhale books. I miss those days, put on some music, lay on the couch and read.
aMguilts
Every night before I go sleep Might be one sentence of a few chapters.... depends on how knackered I am and/or how good the book is. aM

blooreguardqk
I haven't read avidly in a long time! I use to consume books like french fries. Just stay in bed and read all day, finish multiple books at once. I wonder why that died for me. Probably got busy and preoccupied with boys It's good time to get back into that.

I've only read one this year, I think. I used to inhale books. I miss those days, put on some music, lay on the couch and read. I can't do that unless the music has no lyrics honestly. Contrary to popular belief humans are awful at multitasking, so if there's lyrics going on in the background as I'm reading it's like focusing my attention on two different things, which essentially is impossible (you can devote some attention to two things, but not your full attention). If it's video game music or something like that, though, I'm totally good to go.
