Patty
Was wondering if anyone had kidney stones before. What should I do with the pain?I tried Uristat but it didnt help much. The doctor prescribed me "sulfamethoxazole" and I did start taking it.I thought I was starting to get better untill last night when I saw blood again.I'm so dissapointed and just want to get better again. Anyways on Monday I have to get another test done.I'm still waiting for the lab results. The doctors just think all it is is a bladder infection.I think whatever I have is much worse and feels like more then a bladder infection. I'm thinking of trying a hot tub bath.I heard baths can sometimes trigger a bladder infection in some people. So its like I'm not sure what to do.Now Im also afraid to go to the bathroom cause I fear the stinging. You may or may not be able to simply pass it, depending on how large it is. Drinking cranberry juice is supposed to be very helpful. It raises the acidity of the urine, & helps dissolve the stones. Good luck!
Author Patty
Oh ok.I didnt realize cranberry juice could dissolve the stones. Thanks for the info. Patty
Scott S
Originally posted by Patty Oh ok.I didnt realize cranberry juice could dissolve the stones. It may do the trick. Or it may not. You stated that your doctor suspects a bladder infection, though. What made you believe it's kidney stones? Where is the pain/discomfort coming from? __________________________________ Dammit Jim! whichwayisup
Drink alot of water and do drink cranberry juice once or twice a day. My hubby gets kidney stones - The pain for him was unreal! Basically it's the male version of childbirth thru the you know what! OUCH! Be sure to get checked on that regularly and if they get too big the could blast the stones with soundwaves. They do have to be a certain size before you're considered.
brashgal
At the first sign of pain I start drinking a lot of water and it usually goes away. I've only passed one and for me it was WORSE than childbirth (sweating, nausea, pain) because I didn't know what was going on, felt like I was dying. At least when you are in labor you know what is happening and you end up with a baby as a result!! You must urinate!! You can cause bladder or kidney infections by not peeing. I also drink cranberry juice periodically but my doctor said drinking water was more important.
dreaming4ever
I had kidney stones 3 summers ago and it was pure hell. I was in so much pain I had to be on Tylenol 3's pretty consistently for 2 weeks so I constantly felt like I was floating around the room like a balloon caught in the wind. I cried so much those 2 weeks.....definitely the most pain I've ever experienced in my entire life. I was rushed to the hospital several times cuz the pain was so severe and I threw up all over the place. Definitely not recommended lol. And the scariest part is that you're supposedly supposed to get them every 7 years Good luck, let's hope you DON'T have them....
erika2610
Kidney stones.. I don't even like to think about em. I've been in the ER 3 times for em.. doped up on morphine it was so bad. My urologist actually gave me a list of what was good and bad to eat and drink.. cranberry juice was onb the bad list.
dreaming4ever
Yeah, I was doped up on morphine for my kidney stones too when I was rushed to the hospital the first time I experienced the mind-blowing pain. They put an IV of morphine into me which caused me to puke all over the place. That was such an awful time, ugh....I really hope I never have to experience that again. I've always heard that it's very helpful, both remedial as well as preventive. A friend of mine passed several last year. The urologist inserted a stent into one of his ureters to aid in the process. It did not sound very pleasant.

Tony Posted August 16, 2005 Senior Moderators Share Posted August 16, 2005 Patty: You ought to know better than to come to an Internet forum to seek medical advice. If you want to know details about your kidney stones, make a list of questions and present them to your doctor. Otherwise, go to a reputable web site and check out the information. Kidney stones present all kinds of symptoms and doctors have been known to misdiagnose them as exercise induced hematuria (blood in urine), gall stones, and all sorts of other things. So if the doctors make mistakes with you right there in front of them, how can non professionals help you on the Internet. Listening to how other people felt with them will be no indication of what you may feel, if indeed you have kidney stones. Drinking a lot of cranberry juice and water will not hurt you, no matter what you have.

theduke
I'm merely echoing what Scott S. said, but I have heard very good things about the effects of cranberry juice upon this kind of thing. Good luck to you! You will be in my prayers tonight. the Duke
theduke
In our office today we were doing Pee Wee Herman impressions (when the boss wasn't looking). I am glad to see that he still has other fans out there.
