The world is starting to say this

Recommended Posts

'The world' has something to say about everyone, so please don't worry about that!

^^^Yep, this!

When I was in my late teens/early twenties it was when are you going to settle down and find a nice boy? (Never girl mind, even though I was--and still am--sexuality-wise quite fluid.)

Then when I met my then future H, when are you going to marry?

Then when after marrying, when are you going to start a family?

Then after we had our daughter the double whammy. When are you going to have another, which when we answered never because we only wanted one, precipitated outrage in some to the extent that it almost seemed akin to child abuse to not provide siblings! Then there were those who enquired when I would be quitting work to be a SAHM, who were similarly outraged that I wasn't.

Then when we separated, all those asking if we were sure, had considered the impact on our (college age) daughter, and how unlikely we'd be to find new partners.

And now that I've been separated for years, I still get asked on a regular basis when I'm or why I haven't yet found a new partner and/or gotten married. These days I just smile or laugh and so no way am I ever having that type of relationship again. Besides which, I say my husband may object (we're long term separated and haven't yet divorced). That tends to confuse folk enough that they leave it alone.

So I've found that no matter how you live, there will always be others who for some reason or another like to find fault. Don't let their perception be your reality.
