It's possible, you may secretly be somebody else's example, motivation, or positive influence. Most likely they won't reveal that, but they could be looking.

 

You're making $400 a day?! That's a lot!

(I missed if you said how many days a week)

 

Your Indian co-worker, he could be a positive influence. I had an Indian co-worker who was on contract for years, no benefits I believe and had a family too.

 

Looks matter but as you know doesn't tell their story. I like stories that tell a different story. Someone who has the looks, but didn't have the easy road becoming successful. Someone who wasn't granted looks, but became successful. Essentially anyone who most would think shouldn't be where they are, but they are.

 

One great example, Jack Ma. Founder of Alibaba (China's Amazon.com). Google him. He should not be successful--based on our preconceived mind. But he is. He bucked our mind of what a successful person looks like and story should be.

The Jack Ma example really cracked me up :laugh: I remember reading someone posting on fb, after seeing his pic, that God is pretty fair after all :lmao::p

That's wrong! :) God kept his self-esteem and confidence that's for sure.

 

So OP (anyone else), next time you see someone good looking but NOT successful, keep this in mind, God is pretty fair after all.

Your bitterness and lack of understanding of the things which other people can go through are astounding.

 

How do you know she didn't grow up with a mentally ill or alcoholic parent? or lose a parent when she was young? How do you know she hasn't been sexually abused as a child? How do you know that her boyfriend isn't a crazy dude? Or that she hasn't been raped? Or that she went to a good school? Or that she may have experienced homelessness. Or that she had to work part time all the way through school to help support her family? Or any other million and one adversities which looks and location don't leave us immune from.

 

You don't know anything about her, yet you assume on the basis of her appearance and the fact that she's from a developed nation that she's had life handed to her on a plate.

 

Pull your head out of your bubble of self pity and take a long hard look at yourself.

 

Yes, those scenarios are possible. but again, what's the chance?

 

Ok, alright, now you make it sounds like I am actually a lucky person.

alright, my suicide thought was a temporary state of mind. I got quite straighten up by you folks(especially RecentChange), if not completely. Thank you.

 

still...career aside, no love for me. life is boring...sigh, I guess I have to try my best to live a better life. keep focus on the blessings. maybe I indeed complain too much.

yes, Jack Ma is quite an example. and the man is not even a scientific and computer person. he was just an English teacher. but he got vision and conviction.

I don't know if you're a lucky person. Just as I don't know if anything bad has happened to the person you work with. But most of the time when we get to know a person, we will find out that they've had trials of their own. At least, I don't have any friends (and I'm talking Gen X white women here) who's had a life which was plain sailing. Some have challenges earlier in life, some have challenges later and some seem to jump from challenge to challenge. So, I'd say the chances of this woman having had at least one significant hiccup in her life is strong.

 

My point is to never make assumptions about someone on face value.

Satya Nadella, current CEO of Microsoft, I recently learned he has a son with special needs. I always presumed he had a picture perfect life/family ... because, well, he's CEO, rich, and influential.

 

I like stories that. Where your mind tells you one thing, but reality tells you it can be another, and not to assume.

 

(By they way, having a child with special needs, does NOT mean that your family/life is not picture perfect.)
