nospam99
Happy birthday, Ladybug. I'm a person in the world. (Not so sure about Chilli, though ... kidding ... Chilli is a person in the world, too. ) Someone to talk to? You've got me wondering if it would be both 'good' and 'LS-acceptable' to get some Internet Relay Chat (IRC) going among LSers. For those of you who don't know (nospam looks around and doesn't immediately detect any other ur-geeks), IRC is the 'original' (RFC-born) Internet chatroom. It's still out there and pretty easy to use although my impression is that it has been largely replaced by webchat, skype and smartphones.

happyhusband0005
Happy Birthday LB. Have you ever thought about finding a group/club organized around a particular interest you have. For example I love scuba diving but nome of my regular friends or family are into it. Diving a lone is a bad idea so I went to a local scuba shop and got info on some groups of people who meetup weekly for diving. There's a little webpage where the organizers set the weeks dive spot and meet location. I have mede some good new friends through this group. There's lots of groups out there organized for people who share interest in various hobbies, hiking, knitting, playing cards it goes on and on. You should check that out. happyhusband0005
I see, that must be tough. Its great that you are making progress. A lot of groups have online chat forums so you can get to know people virtually a little until you're ready to take that plunge. I hope it works out for you. Stay positive. Happy Lemming
As we go through life, we have GREAT birthdays and "not so great" birthdays. Sometimes life just ebbs and flows. Although you are down for this birthday, think back to your favorite birthday and remember the GREAT time you had. Let the LS posters be your friends, today. Happy Birthday, Ladybug!! preraph
Here, now. Don't spend it in your room! You go do something real fun on your birthday, something that costs a little more than you'd normally spend, something everyone will say "That sounds like fun." Like for me, such a day might be go to the zoo and rent a scooter and take pictures and tweet them out. "I treated myself to the zoo on my birthday. Having so much fun! The baby giraffe is precious." Tweet another picture of me with birds on my arm, "OMG, I think that blue one just crapped down my neck!" The worst that can happen here is you have fun despite your friends being lame. The best that could happen is your friends feel they missed out on something and maybe ask what you have planned next year. It gets harder as friends get families to get any focus on your birthday. I was the one who asked them for years and I've finally just let it go and usually one or two will take me to lunch because I always remember theirs. To me, my bd is my special day and it's the only holiday I really care about, so yes, it sometimes hurts, but people are busy and it is what it is. Other people like traditional holidays more than I do, so to them, that's their time, I guess. Anyway, Happy Birthday, LadyBug! You go do you.
JuneL
OP: Did you at least get bday texts on your bday? I’m asking because many of the people close to me (friends, family) are not living in my area. So I rarely have a big party to celebrate my bday. But I did receive texts, cards, gifts in the mail, etc. Even a bunch of bday wishes from acquaintances on fb. I think people are pretty generous in saying happy bday, as it costs nothing but a few seconds of their time. But do you have good/close friends? Are you close with your family? preraph
I think therapy will help your social anxiety. Meanwhile, even when I was in a depression and isolating and you could kind of say it made me not want to be around people, I still found going places like the zoo easy enough for me, because you don't have to talk to people, just animals. Also, don't know if you'd enjoy a trip to a spa. Looks like you have pretty hair, so assuming you can handle the salon. Spa not much different, go pamper!
bradt93
@happyhusband.. Yes ive thought about that. But im struggling with social anxiety. Im a homebody and dont get out and about.. Maybe in the future i can try that. Im in threapy and doing quite well as far as progress goes. Happy Birthday and I'm sorry for what you're going through. I feel the same way as you do, I suffer from aspergers. I just go to the gym and do my schoolwork. Otherwise, I'm in my room all alone on most days. You'll find someone don't worry, just be strong.
d0nnivain
Ladybug I get it. I really do. I celebrated a birthday recently & held a pity party for myself for reasons similar to yours. I was sad because I didn't think anybody would wish me a happy birthday. My husband was away; I'm an only child' I don't have kids & my parents have passed on so I was feeling sorry for myself. I was surprised with a few cards & more texts then I was expecting. As I age & fear my own mortality more & more, especially of dying alone, I realize that I have to be proactive in guarding against isolation. It's up to me to reach out to others, to build a social circle & make the "family" I don't have. I also realize that I need to be better about remember other people's big days. FWIW, Happy Birthday. Now going forward, what are you going to do to make next year better? Where is your family? What are you going to do to make a friend? Even if you just put your D.O.B. on FaceBook all your social media friends will send you greetings. Things will be better when you come out of your room & rejoin the world. Best wishes.

irresolute
happy birthday Ladybug1982 as long as you have Loveshack you're never alone Exactly. Happy birthday!!!??? I hope you’ve had a great day!! I’m a very lonely person, I basically have no friends or family (besides my husband and kids), so I can relate to you. Sometimes we think all the other people are happy and hace hundreds of friends, but you see, that’s not accurate. There are a lot of lonely people out there, like you and me. Try to enjoy your day, do things that make you happy
forverbeach11
I hope you had a good birthday. I'm glad you are getting help. I'm sorry you felt alone. You are not alone. There are people that care about you. As you progress more in your therapy then maybe you will be able to get out and start making friends. I know being around a lot of people can be tough. After you make the first step, it gets easier and easier. Have you thought about hanging out with a family member or friend? Maybe they could be your support system to help with social anxiety. Stay positive because there is hope for your future. Wishing you the best.
