shesays
According to BMI (body mass index), the normal weight range for your height is 129 - 174. So if you set your definition of "normal" to that, then you are 15 pounds from being underweight. The exact middle of the normal range is 151 pounds, which is pretty darn close to what you weigh! So you are about as normal as normal gets. Also, it's good to be on the low end of normal when you're young so that the middle age weight gain doesn't put you in the obese category. Here's why maybe you feel too skinny: Muscle is denser than fat, so if you have good muscle tone like you said, than your 145 pounds of lots of muscle will take up less space than someone else's 145 pounds of fat. So you could meet some other 28 year old guy who is 5'10" and 145 pounds and if he didn't have any muscle he could look a little overweight while you feel you look a little underweight. You should quit smoking. Period. As far as I know, smoking doesn't increase your metabolism, though I think it can suppress your appetite, which would make it harder for you to eat enough to gain weight. There's another reason to quit! You could go see a doctor or nutritionist who could measure your body fat which would tell you if you have enough body fat. I also think you should go so that you'll hear two more people tell you to quit smoking!
